I've voiced my opinion in the same way in the past and everyone has been entirely unopposed. What I do by doing this is not starting useless flame wars - I hope that the people that I am addressing would be more mature than that.
By promulgating objective fact, I do the community no harm.

In the case of the profile chat, you addressed the recipients in the same way, however there was a different premise that the recipients were discussing before you came in and (rudely?) chimed in.
I think you kinda killed what was a heartfelt moment for OlleSwedish and two of his friends. I don't think you make mistakes very often, but this would be a rare exception in my opinion.

Sorry for the double post. Disclaimers: I don't think you start flame wars.
I don't think the posts on OlleSwedish's profile were "logical," however I didn't bother to step in on them because they didn't care to be logical. They were just having some good feels.

I agree with @SinisterKnowledge. This is nothing against you Yomc, I'd just like to ask if you could try your best not to do certain things like this. This was sort of a mistake that we're willing to forgive you for, but please do not take offense, as I'm only asking if you could try your best not to do things like this again.

Sure, I won't try to infringe upon your happy moments, I suppose.
That being said, for the sake of the forums, it would be a crime for me not to call out every instance of like spamming when it is mentioned at other times throughout the website, as it is utterly destructive to the community.

You do realize that Joseph and FailedExperiment are not obligated to check out/like his profile posts, right? Pose a suggestion to make a rule against "like spamming" if you believe in this concept deeply. People tend to like your suggestions. Otherwise, you might as well leave them alone. You said it yourself that it's pointless to enforce your opinions here.

    2. It's to show that I appreciate the person's content overall, and I want people to recognize that.
This essentially means, "This shows that I like this person and I want people to think well of them. In other words... "I want this person to have a higher Like Count just because."

I see what you mean. I agree like 80%. I do think however, that people who have shown overall great personality on the forums deserve the likes they get. Honestly, if Failed and Joseph like OlleSwedish as a person, then let them like his posts in general. I'm sure they aren't liking all his posts.

I think the statement that ticked you off about the profile posts was "Oh, whatever you say is worth liking," but you're right, that's silly, and I'm almost certain it's an exaggeration. Then again, I have yet to see a less-than-likeable post from Olle.

Honestly, it seemed to be rubbing it in the faces of others. "Heyyy, I got likespammed." That sort of thing. That's what the post did, anyway.
If all of his posts legitimately deserve being liked, then sure. Otherwise, I see it as wrong, and I don't see any alternative that could lead to it being okay.

I read the status post as "Wow, I got this major achievement. Thanks guys. Shoutout to my friends FailedExperiment and Joseph." I mean, anyone can say they achieved something and it can be called "rubbing it in the faces of others," but I didn't see such arrogance in the tone of voice. If anything, he was favoring his friends. Regardless, to each, his/her own interpretation.

Anyway, good points shared. Shall we call this debate finished?
