Other Games Your Opinions On The Latest Super Smash Bros Announcement

So yeah, I woke up at 8:30 AM to watch the final super smash bros announcement.
And I'm very happy that they will add a character that I like.
If you haven't seen the announcement, they are adding 3 new characters. Which are...

Cloud from Final Fantasy, Corrin from the upcoming Fire Emblem game and Bayonetta, from Bayonetta 1 and 2.

Also new costumes for Mii Fighters and of course new stages and music.

Cloud is pretty hype, though his extra info was nothing major in this Smash Direct
Corrin can go screw off, not worth my money for another FE rep that wields a sword and most importantly is not Hector (also yeezus, that range is ridiculous)
Bayonetta looks amazing both in gameplay and appearance ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), probably gonna try out Bayonetta 2 in the meantime thanks to the DLC, then actually buy it when it releases sometime next year

Also glad that Clock Tower is tourney legal and interesting, we take those.

 

I'm going to have a lot of technical (maybe) stuff in here so go ahead and click on the 'Spoiler' tag if you want more of my rant if you're not satisfied with my one sentence review. I'll add here that this took me around 2-3 hours to think of what to say. And yes, while I was watching the trailers, I was analyzing everything like a Smash noob.

Cloud: I think Cloud being in Smash is very good because of the recent announcement of the FFVII remake. Cloud does represent the Final Fantasy series very well, and I believe that he won't disappoint Square.

Spoiler: Cloud Hype & Technical Things

Cloud was announced in the November Nintendo Direct, so it wasn't really an announcement. I just got him as a DLC a few minutes ago and I think his moves are pretty good. Each move dealing around 10% damage or strong knockback means that he kills around 120%. With the buster sword, he has a good amount of air game due to range that Ike or Shulk can utilize as well.
On the flip side, his recovery suffers the same as Little Mac if you haven't reached your limit, so I wouldn't count on him being a high tier like how Shulk or Roy are. He suffers from massive end-lag on most of his ground attacks.
All in all, my in real life friend and I played doubles with Cloud a few times already, and we three can agree that Cloud capitalizes on predicting your opponent. I'd say if you want to be analytical about it and use frame data to your advantage, I'd say go for it, but as Cloud was just released, there isn't that much right now.

Corrin: I'm happy he got into Smash, but I'm feeling that there's too many FE characters at this point.

We finally got a Manakete in Smash and he is overpowered. I say that Corrin will be an interesting player to fight against. I was thinking he's gonna be another Marth clone, but no. He's a very strong and capable fighter, and I'm hoping the trailer didn't just glorify him like Cloud or Mewtwo. I believe his Manakete part will set him apart from the other Fire Emblem characters because of his energy blasts and ability to transform his sword into a rapier. Range-wise, his smash attacks are incredible, even outclassing the range of Shulk.
Due to the frames that he has for "un-transforming," he may have very large landing lag compared to Marth or Lucina. Unless I missed something, I think Corrin will suffer from getting predicted easily as he doesn't have that many moves in certain situations. His recovery is top-notch and his counter is very unique, sending opponents upwards instead of to the side or downwards.
As for this one, I believe time will tell where Corrin will go. I really thought Cloud's moves would deal more damage, but they sadly do not. The one quip I have about him is his side special. If Corrin can hold that for however long he wants, then tournaments are officially broken due to the timer system. Corrin will have a lot to be thought about during this period up to February 2016.

Bayonetta: My reaction to Bayonetta was this: "So that's why the ESRB rating was RP-T."

May I just say, "Holy sh*t." I did not expect her to win the ballot. I have a million things that I could say about her moveset, but it really does depend on playstyle and what you can do with her. Since she is like a Ryu-like fighter, it will be hard for non-Bayonetta players to pick her up. I think it was cool that Fox isn't alone with his Neutral Special now because Bayonetta has a move that deals no knockback as well.
The only thing I see wrong with Bayonetta, because she seems to already be an OP character, is again, ending lag. Her smashes may be the same as Palutena's in the sense that they have ending lag due to the limbs disappearing off the screen. The time counter is just overpowered as well. It probably is like Meta Knight's Down Special in the sense that you appear somewhere else if you get hit.

 

I also didn't expect her to win the ballot as well.
The thing is though, Sakurai said that he doesn't want to add any characters with real world weapons like guns. Since Bayonetta has like, 4 guns on her then I thought they probably wouldn't add her. She is also from a violent and inappropriate game. But I was very, very surprised to see her actually get accepted. So yeah, that's my thought. Very happy that Cloud is going to added too since I have just been watching some Final Fantasy 7 gameplay. And I don't mind Corrin even though now Suepr Smash Bros has... A LOT of fire emblem characters. :)

P.S. It was also genius to add Bayonetta to the game so more people can buy the Bayonetta games if they do like to use her a lot in the game since the Bayonetta games actually didn't sell very well... so yay c:

I was like, another fire emblem character, why?? Just a few characters from fire emblem, fine, but 6? I really love that cloud and bayonetta are added, some badass characters. Bayonetta looks fast and I love that kind of characters.

 

Cloud:
I was pretty hyped for Cloud, because I didn't expected him to be in Smash. Like almost all of us didn't expect him to be in Smash, I recognize him by the starting music which made me think twice it that might be Cloud then it really did. Like it blew me away, plus props to Mr. Sakurai for keeping this from leaking. Because for the past few Directs, we've been leaked A LOT. Our reactions were like "Meh, alright." or "I liked how they represent [Name of leaked character]", and now look at it. Look all of the reactions to Cloud's debut in Youtube, we're so HYPED and SHOCKED. Cloud's debut might be the most important one in history, don't believe me? Then try to watch this video, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Corrin:
Well.. It kind-of kill off my hype during the Direct, knowing another Fire Emblem character is coming in. But it's understandable because Nintendo doesn't want their fans forget that Smash was once primarily for Nintendo Characters, and Fire Emblem is popular(?) in Japan. So, Mr. Sakurai might have listened to his local fans first before us (International fans) but it's alright I guess. Corrin could be a good use... Like a Fire Emblem brawl-off in Smash or.. umm.. *Has no idea to do with Corrin*

Bayonetta:
Same reaction with Cloud, unexpected with kind-of happiness. (Because I actually voted for her in the Smash Ballot)
But some people reacted aggressively to this, even one person PETITIONED to remove Bayonetta from Smash. Like, why right now? There's Zero Suit Samus yet they don't even bother making a petition to it? But I'm also happy to know that Sakurai edited out Bayonetta to make sure she could be part of Smash , like he darkened the holes of her clothing at the back legs. (In her games, they weren't) And when she's summoning, the removal of clothing would limit to her upper thighs. It was a risk for Sakurai, and I thanked him for taking it.

As for the other characters that were hyped for, yet no included.
I have to say they would be great, but there's a next time. (Smash V)

'tis a pity Shovel Knight didn't make it in, maybe it's the absence of a Japanese translation of the game huhu entire armadas voted for the guy and apparently they couldn't put him in because they were simply "uninterested"

 

My thoughts exactly

The announcement felt like a popped hype balloon for me. First off, another FE character was the thing I literally HATED and declared I didn't want another one, months before the announcement.
Cloud is meh
Bayonetta made me a bit mad, considering she's an m rated character, as well as the fact that the announcement said "Top Ten in U.S., First in U.K." and I was like, "BUT WHAT ABOUT JAPAN, CANADA, AND OTHER COUNTRIES????".
Suffice to say, I was "disappointed"

 

Hey, if they included Snake in SSBB, then it would be fine for them to add Bayonetta

 

Different strokes for different folks, but I personally really like Bayonetta's inclusion, though it's rather sketchy on what makes a "realizable" character or not, as I'm pretty sure there were higher ones like Isaac and K Rool anyway.
