soooo did Microsoft buy or is buying out minecraft? If so what about the future of bukkit servers? No going forward? Hum? Any input guys?
Minecraft is owned by Microsoft, nothing has changed. The same people still work for Minecraft, jus under "surveillance" of Microsoft.
After Evilseph (Bukkit's head developer) attempted to stop the project Mojang stepped in and said they acquired the Bukkit project (This was before Microsoft). The Bukkit project was shutdown thanks to a former Bukkit developer 'Wolveress' who issued a DMCA citing Bukkit's weird position in licensing (Minecraft is closed source where as Bukkit is open source and that he had basically been working for Mojang for free for 2 years). This DMCA affected a 'forked' project called Spigot. So the Bukkit project was dead but another project Spigot was still alive. They then released patches for a existing file already released (Which J&H still use to this day). Spigot then released a 1.8 build and made users compile it on their computers circumventing the DMCA. Then the whole Microsoft-Mojang drama happened and Spigot carried on as usual. Regarding the 1.8.4 update Spigot actually released a patch before Mojang has so yeah. TL;DR: Bukkit is dead. J&H use Spigot anyway which is a fork of Bukkit and Microsoft hasn't interfered with MC (Yet). Edit: FYI most of this is incorrect: Yes Bukkit was shutdown but the rest is false. Also other devices will most likely not be touched and just continued the same.
change is coming.....http://bukkit.org/threads/mojang-and-the-bukkit-project.309715/ Read your heart out..
Like I said the Bukkit project is dead - No 1.8 release is coming that post was from September 2014 and nothing has happened since. The project is still under code freeze with not many legitimate ways to get Bukkit 1.7 and lower. At the present time Spigot is a better alternative (And Sponge when it is completed).
As of yet nothing has changed and do to the fact that microsoft owns minecraft I expect that nothing will.
Yes, Microsoft bought Mojang. From my current point of view, I certainly do not see anything wrong. Bukkit is going to be continued, I mean why would Microsoft buy Mojang.... for no reason?
Actually, ItsJerryAndHarry are using a project called "Bungeecord". They are not using Spigot. This is why you can do /server <x>.
Bungeecord works like this: There is a Bungeecord server that connects Spigot servers together I am familiar with Bungeecord having used it myself and it does nothing on its own you need individual Spigot servers to run it. It is just easier to say the server runs Spigot than go into detail about Bungeecord.
Mojang but the EULA hasn't changed since 2013 but Mojang clarified it to sweeten the deal with Microsoft so technically servers have been violating the EULA since 2013.
