Story of Grief: Anger (2)

Sorry to keep you waiting! I was pretty damn busy before. The following list is the characters that will appear in the upcoming chapters:

I will contact these people sooner or later to discuss character development. Now let's get started. This is pretty much an extended version of that sneak peek I gave.

Chapter 1: ConfusedAwakening​

H-how can this be? I don't feel anything on my chest. The dagger stabbed me next to my sternum. I felt it, but now I can't. I can't even hear the dragon. Wait, this means I'm dead right? But I hear something. It sounds like the whistling of grass, but then the scene changes. My eyes are still closed but I can just sense what is happening around me. It was just darkness. It sounded like yelling with the whistling now. The whistling just got louder and disappeared into the loud voices. I wonder if they're my friends. I remember them so vaguely now, but how? I just saw them a few minutes ago. It's impossible for me to forget them. What happened? I try to jog my memory and I remembered them. I remembered them all: Louise, nala, Hamood, Radii, Kazuke, Jowl, Kat, and even Xeno, Ace, and Twage. I must've cried there since I could feel water in my eyes. That's when I heard it. It was really muffled and I couldn't hear it at all. The voices slowly got clearer but I also heard other noises: fire crackling, rush of water. I could also smell it: the salty breeze, the smoke, the scent of people. Wait, how could I smell them? I'm carving a picture in my head and I'm thinking that I just got unconscious and someone healed me somehow near the beach. But that's impossible right? None of this is making any sense. Now I can hear the voices. They've started to clear up so I can actually hear them: "---l th- ---ch!" None of that made any sense. I'm just going to give up drawing a picture in my head. I open my eyes to see a horrifying sight. I didn't expect anything like this. I woke up on a wooden floor, but it was hovering over the ocean, like a pier. There were boats on the ocean as well. But when I turned around, I saw a pit with a huge fire inside it with humans carrying pitchforks and torches gathered around it. What really disturbed me was what was inside the fire. In the fire, I saw wooden poles with what looked like rag dolls tied to them. That's when I realized that they weren't rag dolls but humans. I saw the burnt flesh coming off their bodies into the bonfire. The tied-up humans looked different from the others though. They look have different clothes while some looked like the civilians around the bonfire. The humans chanted the same thing again: "Kill the witch!" I thought this was horrifying enough, but then a villager pointed at me and yelled, "OI! Who are you? Where did you come from?"

Sorry. I was sick. Stomach flu. I seriously thought I wrote the second chapter already. Kazuke, you'll be added after those guys up there. Sorry if my tone seems demeaning today.

Chapter 2: Alem​

The brutish villager started heading this way to the pier of the ocean. I panicked and just decided to stand up, but something felt different than what I was used to. I wanted to get a good look at myself first, but the villager started yelling, "Answer me! Who are you and where did you come from?! You're not a witch are you?!!" I looked around and saw that the other villagers were looking at us talk. I responded, "Umm, I'm Kono, and I don't know where-" I stopped mid-sentence and noticed a long black piece of hair fall out of nowhere. Then I realized that the piece of hair was attached to my body. Then I looked at my body and realized that this wasn't the body I was used to at all. "Where am I? Do you know where Denpe is? That's where I'm from!" I said to the villager. "Uhh, ma'am, I've never heard of that place before. Actually, it does sound familiar, but this is Alem. A town plagued with witches. Us humans have to combat them in order to survive a- Wait a second. Those clothes." the villager said, "You are one of them!" I only noticed now that I've been wearing a light-blue robe, one that mages would wear. In confusion, I ran along the coast of the town. I could see the villagers taking pitchforks and torches from each other and running after me. I yelled back, "I'm not a witch!" I could hear one of them yelling, "Oh yes you are!" They were ruthless and I could sense a lust for blood. I felt a sort of book in the robe I was wearing and I took it out while running. I took the tome out and opened it to find entries. They were spells that I could use apparently. So it was true that I am, indeed, a witch. I couldn't do anything about it to change who I am, so I decided to cast one. It would tarnish who I am to the people of the town, but I will do anything to save myself at this point. At that moment, I thought I heard something out of the water as I was running along the coast. I just continued running and tried to read what one of the spells said. The spell said, "Freeze," and I just casted it by controlling the water in the air to lock and turn into crystals. I just needed to use my hand to control the water, but something happened. The water rose out of the ocean, but I didn't do anything. I saw the water take the villagers and throw them all back to Alem. I just stopped and realized that this was a gift. But then the water rose again and grabbed me. I thought I was a goner and that I wouldn't be able to live because of a lack of breath, but nothing happened. I could breathe underwater, but I just lost consciousness after a few seconds.

Chapter 3: WitchHouse​

Over and over, I thought the same thing: "What are witches?" I tried thinking it through scientifically, but there's no way magic existed. Actually it did. I remembered what I did back in another world, but I forgot it's name. It started with a D, but- oh, Denpe! Yes! That's what the world was called. It's so far, yet it's the closest thing I remember. How is this possible? It's the only thing I can cling onto except my name, what's in Alem, and what just happened. What did happen? I was running away and I just got grabbed by the water! Wait, I'm awake now, so I probably am conscious. I shouldn't be in any water now. "Hello?" I hear a voice come out of nowhere, out of the darkness I see. The voice sounds really familiar, and the scene also seems really familiar. It's like the past was happening again. I fall down a hole and hear voices greeting me. That seems oddly familiar. I'm still dazed, and I can't really do anything. My limbs don't want to move and my eyelids are heavy. "Hello? Earth to- whoever you are!" Oh there the voice goes again. I felt like drifting off to sleep when I feel a slap across my face. The slap felt so forceful, I could tell it left a red mark. My eyes just opened instantly and I bumped my head on something, or someone it seemed. "OW! Why'd you do that!" someone screamed, "Now my head hurts!" I then felt a surge of water rush at me, but the water was salty. I open my eyes to find myself in a sort of air-bubble on the seafloor with a teenage girl who reminded me of someone. She was rubbing her face with water and it just healed. "Ok," the girl said as she turned towards me, "I'm sorry for slapping you." She held out her hand and I felt the irritation from the slap go away. "What? Cat got your tongue?" the girl said. I'm in complete shock over these events. Here, in front of me, is someone I thought was dead. Someone who I saw die. Someone who I let die. "Hey you okay?" she said. "nala" I said. But none of this made any sense. She used wood magic. Wood! Not any of this. The only one I knew who could do this was- what was her name? Radii! Yes! "How. How do you know my name?" nala said. "Believe it or not, we met before." I said as I took out my tome, "These were our journals, but now they, they're these things. They have entries in them about these spells but I don't know how to use them. I even-" My finger turned a page to some pages that looked like my handwriting. I saw handwriting about being in an inn, or traveling to some woods. "Can I take a look at this?" nala said. nala read each and every entry until she stopped at the third entry where she saw her name a few times. "This can't be real." nala said, "Who are you? From the looks of this book, I see that you're capable of using cryokinesis, the ability to change the molecular speed of an object to effectively freeze it. I can use hydrokinesis, meaning I can control water. Based on your cluelessness, I'm gonna need to train you. I'm taking you to my abode now." "Okay then. I'm Kono. Will I be able to learn there?" I asked. "Of course. Please wait as this bubble takes us to the main hub." nala said. It didn't feel like we were moving at all, but we were. The bubble rose and went past the kelp on the ground. After a while, I saw a huge crimson building that was protected by a dome. I guessed that this was where nala lived. We phased through the dome and I saw five people come out the building. The air bubble popped and nala said loudly, "This is Kono, our newest friend. She's a cryomage. Please welcome her to the WitchHouse!"

I forgot how to write one of these introductions. Oh right, a good friend told me that I should start writing a certain way to make it easier than read than a huge block of text, so I guess I'll do that then. I'm also gonna start writing "my thoughts" in a certain way. If you have a problem with the new way, please leave something below about it. I'm trying to improve my writing style a lot. Oh ya, that listing above about who'll be introduced and when is wrong.

Chapter 4: Reintroductions​

The five people of the crowd clapped and it was then I noticed that they were all wearing the same type of clothing and held either a staff or tome.
nala pointed at each one of them, from left to right, saying their names: "Kono, this is Xeno, Twage, Kat, Kazuke, and-"
My anger must've gotten the best of me because I stopped nala mid-sentence in a rude fashion and grabbed Xeno.
"How could you do this?!" I yelled at him, "Because of you, Louise is d-!"
I heard nala clear her throat and say, "You mean, this Louise?"
nala gestured to the person on the far right and she looked well. "Umm, hi. I'm Louise." Louise said.
The six with me were all with me at Denpe, and we died together. I felt glad to see all of them again. I let go of Xeno and said, "I'm sorry. Something came over me and it was rude of me to throw myself on you."
"No biggie, I get that a lot for some reason." Xeno said.
"So you're all magic-wielders right?" I asked.
"Yes. We all are." nala said, "Explain."
"You somehow already know me; I'm Xeno. This isn't weird at all. I'm able in hydrokinesis, aerokinesis, geokinesis and pyrokinesis. Although I have all of these, I cannot use them like a master. I'm learning from nala, Twage, and Kazuke about the first three so I can at least use them all in combat. This is all I can do for now." Xeno said. Xeno then held out his hand and a big flame appeared. Then, with his other hand, he motioned water to douse it. "Oh and-"
"Don't do it Xeno. You're gonna crash the building again." nala said, "Twage and Kazuke?"
"As Xeno said, I can control the earth. I can also control stone. That's how I rebuilt this building after someone destroyed it. I'm Twage, and this is Kazuke. You probably already know us somehow." Twage said. "Yah, I'm Kazuke. Aerokinesis. Done." Kazuke said.
"I'm Kat. I have the power of levitation and can use light at my command." Kat said.
"I'm Louise. Somehow you know me and I died. I'll ask you about that later. My witchcraft's opposite of Kat, but somewhat. I grow horns and my hands turn into claws when I get angry. So basically I turn into a demon. I just wear this charm around my neck and it'll work. I'm the only one who can use this charm." Louise said.
"Ok, Kono, so this is everyone. We've lost many already. Do you know how to cast your spells? Just think of what you want to do and gesture the action. It will work. Trust me. Try it on this." nala said. She took some water out of the ocean above us and wrapped it into a ball. "Just feel that you'll freeze the water in here into ice. And stay calm as well."
I pulled out my hand and put it faced towards the ball of water. I closed my eyes and pretended that I could freeze it. I then heard some cheers and opened my eyes to find a ball of ice in my hand.
"Congrats Kono! I knew you had it in you!" nala cheered. "Well, let's get you settled."
I didn't know I would freeze it, but I did. I was hoping this skill would come in handy. "Thank you so much! This power is incredible!" I said.
"No worries!" nala said.
"Oh can I ask you a question nala?" I asked, "Do you know anything about these names: Hamood, Jowl, Ace, Radii?"
"Th- that name! The last one! She's the reason for all this suffering!" nala said.

Chapter 5: CheckingIn​

"That last name." I thought. "Wait, you don't mean Radii right?" I asked nala.
"Gahh! I said too much. Just- just ignore what I said. Y- you still need to tell us how you know us all already." nala said while fidgeting.
The tables have turned on me. I thought I was really going to get some answers as to Radii's whereabouts, but now I have to answer something. The problem is, I don't even know what was going on, or how it happened, but something did happen to Radii based on nala's body language, and I intend to find out about it. I just can't bring myself to the truth though. "Well, the truth is, I don't know. I know how I met all of you; I mean, I met you in a hole before, nala. I don't know if any of you remember what happened before, with the dragon." I solemnly said.
"Dragons have been extinct for a few hundred of years already, Kono." nala said, "None of us know what you're talking about."
"Yah, and can you please tell us all about 'dying?'" Louise said.
"I guess it was a dream or something else entirely, but we all have died already in that 'dream.' I saw you get burnt to a crisp, nala. I also saw Xeno get smashed by a giant foot." I said.
Xeno looked disgusted at that statement and proceeded over to me until Kazuke stopped him. "It doesn't matter if she thinks we're dead already. We're still here. Maybe the reason we have her now is because she can speak of the future!" Kazuke said optimistically.
"Or she's a spy." Kat proposed, "Maybe she speaks of this to drive us off course of our real destiny. She's been sent by someone to-"
"Enough, Kat. I've already checked. She's not influenced by R-" Xeno said until nala cut him off by sealing his lips.
"Don't. Please don't." nala said.
I didn't want to cast suspicion on me, so I stayed silent until I decided to really investigate.
"Hey." Kat said, "You haven't eaten at all, have you Kono? I'm sorry for accusing you. You know, I'll whip up something!"
"Really? It's fine you accused me. It's a thing I get all the-" "No worries! I mean, we should at least get you used to the place, right?" Kat said.
"That's a great idea. Twage, why don't you and Louise show Kono around the building?" nala suggested.
"On it." Twage said. Twage grabbed my wrist and ran with me and Louise inside the building. That earth magic he has must give him super-strength or something.
Twage stopped in the entrance hallway and said, "To the left is the mens' area, and to the right is for you gals. I'll see you for supper!"
At that moment, I completely forgot they still think I'm a girl after all this time.
"Hey." Louise said, "Let's get going."
"Louise, do I look female to you?" I asked.
"Pfft. Of course you do silly. I mean, just look at your face. It's gorgeous." Louise said.
"Would you say I'm crazy if I said I'm a dude?" I asked.
"Yes. You're crazy."
"Well.... I am. I'm serious. My voice is just high for some reason."
"Wait, I don't detect any lies. Uh. Oh. Lie detector is another one of my abilities. Actually, I don't care if you lodge with me. I've been asking nala if I could bunk with the guys, but she keeps saying I cannot. It gets lonely with just Kat and I. Both of us are used to guys anyway. Just keep it a secret from her and the others, kay?"
"O-okay." I responded.
"Dinner!" Louise and I heard coming from the main hall.
We heard shouts of "Just a sec!" and Louise even yelled that as well.
"Well, it's dinnertime, so we better get going." Louise said, "Kat makes the best dinners!"

*insert intro here* Ok, but I seriously need to slow down the pace of this to reach twenty chapters.

Chapter 6: Science​

Louise and I re-entered the main hall and she led me to the dining room.
"I really can't believe that all of these rooms are inside this building." I thought to myself, "The 'hut' looks much smaller on the outside."
"Hey. We're here." Louise said. After a few minutes of walking away from the entrance to the building, we reached another door. Louise opened it for me and we were greeted by bright lights, brighter than those of the hallways. When the light cleared out, what remained was a large, circular table fixed with forks and plates. The room was breathtaking more-so. A huge glass dome covered the circular room and anyone could see the sea from down here. There were
"This is a dining room?" I asked Louise, "How were you all able to build this mansion-like building while running away?"
"I don't know. Xeno and I were the newest members of the guild until you came. I asked nala the same thing and she said that she and Twage built this. It was probably really easy with Twage's geomancy and her aquakinesis."
Xeno and Kazuke entered the dining room and took two of the seats so that they sat next to each other. Twage came in shortly after the aeromages sat down. He was driving a wooden cart with glasses of water and an ice tray perched on it.
"Hey, Kono, can you freeze these real fast? We really like cold water, and it takes forever for nala to separate the salt and other stuff from the regular water. This way it'll be much easier." Twage said.
I froze the ice tray and Twage thanked me. None of it made sense, so I asked Louise, "Okay, shouldn't it be really cold down here?"
"It should, but nala, Twage, and Xeno were able to set up an insulating system so that it gets warm and toasty in here. Just look at those fireplaces." she said.
I didn't notice it until now, but a long fireplace lined the walls. At the time, I was wondering how all of this got here. That's when nala entered.
Kat entered the room as well with a cart with seven plates and served each plate to us. We started eating the pasta that Kat made. It was probably the most heavenly thing I've eaten since landing.
"Hey! So how was it Kono? Like it?" nala asked abruptly.
"Oh yes! I love it here! Quick question. How did all of these kinds of materials get down here in the deep blue sea?" I asked.
"Oh we stole them." nala said. I dropped my fork at what she said.
"You stole this stuff?!" I asked.
"Oh of course not. We just had to use Kat's divine powers to mask our identities to buy whatever we needed. Don't ask where we get the money from. We just give them seashells." nala said.
"I don't feel like asking questions anymore. There's gonna be some weird answer." I said.
"You get used to it." Louise said. We finished our dinners and then we all headed to bed. Louise, Kat, and I headed to the girls' bedrooms and Twage, Xeno, and Kazuke headed to the boys'. nala headed to her personal quarters.
The room the three of us stayed in had two sets of bunk beds on two walls with pink walls. Louise said, "Oh Kono, just take my top bunk. Kat normally sleeps in the bottom bunk of the other set."
"Okay. Thank you Louise." I said.
"Good night. I'll be right back." Kat said while exiting the room.
I drifted off to sleep on the bed into a dream. I dreamt I was back on the pier of the dock and was about to be burnt to a crisp by the humans. I could still hear their cries of anger towards the witches. Normally, I shoot off as soon as something that alarms me gets me in a dream, so I shot up out of the bed and hit my head on the wall. Luckily, Louise noticed, but a few seconds after I laid back down, I hear something coming from the outside. I climb out of bed and exit the bedroom to hear an ominous voice. It didn't sound like any of my friends, but I decided to ignore it and re-enter the bedroom. I noticed all was well with Kat sleeping and Louise sleeping, so I just went back to sleep for sunrise.
