Chapter 1: The Hideout Madison leaped over the fence of her backyard and whipped around, "C'mon, Jason! I think it's around here somewhere." she called out, just as Jason's head appeared on the other side of the fence. "I don't think we're allowed to, Madi.." Jason stated, faltered. Madison shrugged and helped him over the fence. "Well, if somebody comes and tells us to leave, then we will." she said easily. Jason sighed of disbelief, but he followed Madison down the dark alleyway anyways. After they had walked along the alley, they came to a gate with a sign on it that read, "CAUTION: DO NOT ENTER" Jason hugged his ribs tightly, just as a pale hand reached out and grabbed Madison's arm. Jason shrieked and covered his mouth as another hand reached out from the shadows and grabbed him by his hand. The two were dragged along in the darkness for a while, when they finally found themselves in a room with no windows. Madison sat down in a bean bag chair and fiddled with a piece of hair, " So, Claire, why did you want us to come today? I thought that we were only allowed here on Thursdays." Madison questioned thoughtfully, "It's important, Madi. Claire and I have talked about it, and we've decided that we want to be part of the situation." Samuel supplied, Claire shot him a look and continued for him, "Well, first of all, you don't need to speak for me, Sam. And second of all, he's right, we've felt left out, and we want in. If you can get us in, of course." Jason looked from Claire to Madison, noticing that she wasn't making eye contact with anybody. After a minute, she looked up at Samuel and Claire from under her bangs, her eyes bright with integrity, "You're asking for quite a lot, Claire. You know how my parents are, there's no way that they're going to let you guys join the investigation, especially since I wasn't even supposed to know anything about it.." she replied intently. Samuel glanced at Claire, who was clenching her fists tightly and breathing shallowly, "Then do something about it, or get out of here." Samuel demanded sternly, stomping his foot, making Jason jump. "Fine. Let's get out of here, Jason." Madison said to Jason, "It's not like there's anything useful to do around here anyways.." Jason's Adam's apple jerked up and down rapidly, "B-but.." he stuttered, "I said, let's go." Madison interrupted, grabbing his arm. Jason winced and followed Madison out the door, but he looked back at Samuel and Claire, his eyebrows drew together with shame. Thanks for reading!
