It won't bring strategy, but better gear. Obviously people saying it will require strategy aren't pvpers. I think 1.9 is good except shields are OP, cooldown will slow pvp, and armor mechanics will ruin gapple pvp. Pvp is harder than you think. Try jitterclicking while aiming good. Hard right. Try doing the above while comboing, refilling and being under the impression that you can't waste pots. The non pvpers will be thrilled that it will require "skill". And the stupid part is, they don't even explain the "skill". At least explain the tactics for 1.9.

Pre-1.9 is all wear & tear pvp. Your main job is to break the opponent's armor so he has nothing left to defend. It takes a lot of constant tracking and clicking, playing different games actually help with this. I farmed Golem in Terraria for 1 week and I jumped into MC pvp, in which I snapped my cursor onto targets constantly. It sort of came naturally since. So, Mojang wants to completely scrap wear & tear to bring in a more tactical pvp, in which I will explain the mechanics:

The elephant in the room, strength cooldown. A lot of people believe that when your cooldown is in effect, you cannot attack, but that isn't true. You can still click and spam click, but your damage output is miniscule compared to waiting.

Now let's move to the next big game-changer, shields. Shields are great for negating damage and giving knockback to mobs. Shields though, have a weakness, their backs. Unlike the sword block, if you hit someone who is blocking with the shield from the back, they take the full damage, which is a pretty big deal.

Now, armor nerfs. So many armor nerfs. 1.9 P4 is as strong as regular 1.8 armor. Not only that, but armor on low durability do near-no defense. This is to buff damage done on melee pvp.

There are also lingering potions which give a spread buff in a pretty decent area. Not much to really say other than that.

Tools got their own damage cooldowns and damages, although I think the only thing worth mentioning is Axes. Axes deal out huge damage per-shot, and A wooden axe is now stronger than a Diamond sword. Now, you may wondering, "Why use a diamond sword, then?" Well, Swords don't have as much damage per shot output as Axes, but Axes have a pitifully long time for a cooldown, which gives swords the highest damage per second output.

Bows got a ton of new arrows, 1 new one for every type of potion and a spectral arrow, which allows the enemy to be seen through walls and whatnot.

Effects can now be seen in the top right-hand corner

Dual-wielding is now a thing, so you can have a sword & shield, or switch the shield for food or torches. Sadly though, you can not use dual-wield weapons or tools.

That's all really worth mentioning for pvp, which I feel this thread is centered around.

All I want is for shields to get nerfed, and I'll be fine with 1.9.

Slow paced combat is generally more skill based. The cool downs are a good way for people to strategize during CQC. Successful examples of slow paced combat is the Halo series's MP as well as Marathon's.

Wait wait wait. There are no changes to armor mechanics except for armor now having attributes for armor value... What are you talking about?
