Pet Peeves

Today I remembered that I have off Monday for Christopher Columbus Day. You have NO idea how much this pisses me off. I'd rather have Thursday off for Leif Eriksson Day.

Sorry for my little mini-rant. The fact that Leif Eriksson Day is so under-appreciated is a huge pet peeve. What are some of your pet peeves that make you want to step on a field of babies wearing cleets with needles at the bottoms? We can turn this into a ranting contest, actually.

BUT

If it wasn't for Columbus, who would have brought bananas, cacao and other great stuff to Europe? He might not deserve the glory, but without this 'discovery', the whole history, maybe even economy of Europe would be different. You have to see the big picture in these kind of things. It's not only about who discovered america first, it's about the whole world history.

 

You people only listen to what your teachers tell you about Columbus in middle school. They say, "he abused slaves, he wasn't first, he took others credit, etc." The courage it takes to lead a single exploration is incredible. Most people treated slaves terribly back then, so he is most definitely not the only one. Somebody had to take credit and report the discovery back to Europe. He's not going to be like, "Oh, someone else found this but they haven't reported it yet. So I'll let them have credit."
For all the costs and work it takes for a voyage, he is going to take credit and try to make the hard work actually mean something. The Spanish crown doesn't want to hear that his voyage is just a repeat of someone else's and a waste of money, time and work.
So stop hating on Columbus when you don't understand the time period or context in which these events happen in.

What he said is that just because you rant about something does not mean it's a drama thread. Whatever you did was obviously seen as punishable. To prevent myself from meeting the same fate, I got rid of my rant. It was a bit excessive.

I am sick and tired of people saying Columbus "discovered" the island.

And the British actually spread many diseases to the uncivilized native Americans.

One thing I hate is when I first meet a person, they look at me for a minute and then say...

"How old are you, your so short and skinny"

The when I'm eating something they say...

"WOW you eat, but your so skinny, where does it go"

I just feel like slapping those people, it happens everytime. Its actually in my genes where I look 2 years younger than I am and that I have skinny arms. Which annoys me a lot sometimes. My mom loves looking 2 years younger than she is but I hate it, even as short as I am and at high school people find it hard to believe I'm 15 and not 13.... since that I look young, the grades below me think they can treat me like S*** , just because I'm shorter than some of them and that I look young. I'm growing now thank gawd for that because I don't think I can stand it any longer, not sure if you found that pun.

I also don't like it when people park their cars on my front garden as if they own the place...

I hate it when people also tease my one guy friend just because he is gay, it makes me sick... because my gay friend is the sweetest nicest guy I know and seeing someone hurt him by words hurts me as well. And another thing that I hate is that when I report someone for bullying me or my friends I'm the one that gets in trouble and not the bully, they always get away with it while I'm always in detention for nothing...... I hope its not just me it happens to.
