IGN trevaeh Minigame Parkour Description of the map 4 levels of mirror parkour. On one side, is the side where there are jumps made from clay/ladders. On the other, it just just barriers. You must use the opposing side(built from clay) to parkour your way through. I know it's confusing, but once you play, it's easy. Meant to be a Hard map. Screenshots Credits to @Trevor
I like the idea of the having a mirrored map, and the (seemingly hard) jumps themselves. However I have a few issues with it overall, which you could potentially improve upon/fix: Most if not all of the Parkour maps on the server currently have a theme. The theme of this map seems to be mirrors but the only thing that's representing it currently is just some glass panes splitting the map down the middle. I think you can add more onto the map; I'm going to say this bluntly for the sake of clarity, but the map doesn't look very nice, it's just some quartz boxes at the moment. It's heavily focused on the parkour/jumps themselves, but the building-aspect of it is lacking; I don't like the idea of jumping on invisible blocks/barriers since it can be confusing, and because it's an entirely new parkour-style never seen before on J&H. I think it would be better if they were visible solid blocks, and the mirrored aspect of the map was just be an aesthetic feature; This is a very minor thing, but I think it would be better to put water/lava at the bottom rather than having a void. TL;DR: I don't like the invisible jumps and the aesthetics of the map.
it's the point of them map, you have to look at the other side to find where the jumps are. it's supposed to be simple I agree with you though, I could do some things to make it look better.
If you don't like how the jumps are set up, then you don't have to play the parkour map. I really like this idea, but I do agree with you the aesthetics are lacking.
The whole point of mirror parkour is that you aren't supposed to see where the jumps are. You use the blocks on the other side of the mirror to judge where you're supposed to jump to. Many servers that are based only on parkour have mirror maps, and they usually are in a box/enclosed room with no real aesthetic.
I understand that this is the whole point of the map. However I'm just saying that I personally don't like it because it's confusing and a nontraditional type of Parkour on J&H. If nobody likes a certain type of parkour or a map, then there's no reason to add it since nobody will play it/want it. I mentioned I didn't like it so we can get an idea in this thread if people are interested in seeing this map on the server or not. So far though, it seems that I'm the minority with the view that this kind of Parkour map shouldn't be added. This server is unique, and every map has it's own theme and build-style. This map however, has no real theme other than being a mirrored map, and isn't very pleasing to look at unlike every other map that exists on the server currently which is. Those servers are more focused on the parkour jumps, and not full maps. This isn't really coming from my opinion, but more so from what I've seen from J&H's vision of an ideal Parkour map. They want good-looking, unique and detailed maps which are aesthetically pleasing to look at, not just parkour maps with interesting/fun jumps in Quartz boxes. Even in the tutorial on how to submit maps, it's mentioned that these things are important:
Sometimes a change can be a good thing. New styles of parkour might actually be something the server needs.
I like this concept, I've actually seen it a few times before on other servers, so it's proven to work, but I think you are missing jump variety and aesthetics. Instead of being inside a quartz cube, you could have this idea over a lake surrounded by trees, or something that is nice to look at. It's easy to lose interest in a map when you encounter failure with no compensation (in this case getting to see more scenery). This is currently a map that is only conceptually stable, which is a good start, but this server prizes scenery very highly in whether or not a submission will make it to the server. I might also suggest some more jump variety, or even make some key changes in the map like a dark portion, where you must fail and fall in order to find where the blocks are. These are just suggestions and I know you can come up with even better ideas. Good luck!
