My thoughts on people who get "hate" for being honest.

Hi. I know what you may be thinking, "Smg, you attention seeker, lock this thread." The least thing I want is 'likes' or 'attention'; all I want is to get my opinion out there. I hope you understand.

Alright, today I'm going to make a thread that could be taken as a rant. It could also be taken as controversial.
I tend to see people who get "hate" for being honest, which I think is unfair.

Alright, I'll explain.
Everyone on this forum says to others, telling them to be their-selves. State their opinion, and they'll be 'accepted'. I've told others that, and there's really nothing wrong with that. It's just, referring to this forum, we sometimes take people's opinions a little bit too seriously. Like, I tend to see people who are completely honest, but all they get are people telling them to be a bit nicer, or that they're completely wrong. It's really not fair.

I'll address two things:

Honesty: Honesty is the best policy, right? That's what I like to go for, to be honest. It shows people that you're trustworthy, and you're most likely a good person. I see people on this forum who always say they be honest, and trust me, most of them look to be 100% honest. It's just, I see some of them get "hate" from others, for having a different opinion on things. Whether the opinion is controversial, or simply 'hate' from the person, they are being honest. We all got to stop getting 'mad' at people just because their opinion is different than the most of us.

Opinions: I kind of got into this topic in the piece above this one, but I'd like to go more in-depth. This forum can be seen as a great place to be, and a toxic environment. Yes, I called this forum a possible toxic environment. You know why? It's because so many people try to change their opinions/acts to just fit in. To be one of the popular's, to be one of the "cool kids". To be a "Well-Known Member". With this, people tend to change their opinions, to be like the others. Again, most of us got to learn that this 'copying' of others can't last forever, and we should stop this habit right now. I'm not saying names, but I see this a lot. All in all, you are unique just the way you are. You don't got to be like the "cool kids", to fit in. If people don't accept your opinions/thoughts for who you are, then you shouldn't be around those guys.

The main reason I made this thread is because I see tons of people who are honest on this forum, but aren't "accepted" because their opinion is 'controversial'. This forum can be taken as a fun and easygoing environment, but there are serious posts, and serious topics, which I am not saying there aren't. Topics that need people to be honest. Again, we got to remember that people may have different opinions on things. We got to accept that, and accept the person for not being afraid to state their true thoughts.

Lol people say stuff like "opinions are different and I understand it if you have a different one"

then they get pissed off if its "bad" like what the fuck. ITS AN OPINION.

I'm very honest with my opinions then people get pissed off at me because its "bad".

 

I don't know about this.
I mean, I was raised to be honest but I was also raised
with something called 'manners'.
And the old 'If you don't have anything nice to say,
don't say anything at all' rule.
It would bother me a great deal to hurt someones feelings,
so if I had negative feelings for the person I would rather not say anything at all.
Of course, a person can say whatever however he wants to.
But if they're going to be rude or mean, they shouldn't be
surprised to find out that people don't like it?

 

I can get where you're coming from, with the whole 'mean' and 'rude' thing. Trust me, I do.
This thread was made to explain my thoughts on the whole topic itself. About people who are honest, but don't have close to the same opinions as others, and are 'mistreated' in a way.

All I want is for people to accept people for who they are, no matter if they "fit in" with the rest.

Honestly, I believe that nothing is perfect. That goes for people as well; nothing is truly 'perfect'. The same thing can apply to people being 'mean'. Different people have their own opinions on anything, so when you look at it, anything you say could be taken as a mean statement. It's all about whether the person thinks it is mean, not the writer themselves. And again, it's basically the same thing as being nice. It's all about how people interpret a saying, thinking if it's 'mean' or 'nice'. It's all in our heads.

 

I understand what you are saying about people having controversial opinions and they have the right to speak them. However, I generally don't think that people change their opinions to seem 'cool' or 'popular', I think that it would be disrespectful to disregard their opinions just because it is a popular concept/idea. That being said I also think that some 'honest opinions' end up as just being rude to others.

 

I can get where you're coming from.
I've seen people change a ton in this community, and that change has mostly started when thus person becoming "popular" or "well-known". It's happened to me before. And thus player keeps wanting more attention, takes up the popular opinions, and voila. I am judging this on MY experiences.

I'm not trying to 'disregard' someone's opinion, if they are actually being honest. You see, this is a place we call the internet. It's hard to see if someone is actually being serious, or actually telling the truth, or just lieing to fit in with others. It's hard, and myself am not always right with my opinions in this category.

Aren't there some opinions that are better left unsaid though? (rhetorical question or not you can reply if you feel like it)

 

Honestly, I love stating my opinion on this forum because of its great community.
But this is definately something I noticed especially coming from me, as I have seen it happen to several different members on multiple occasions, and a few times it has happened to me.
I have resorted to asking staff members just for permission to state my opinion. I usually do this for every "controversial" post/thread. This will be a short post, but still carries a message.

I'm 100% agreeing with this. People change there opinions to become "cool" and get attention. It's dumb

 

In a way, this was similar to my Flame War thread, and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that sees this problem.

People should be able to state their opinions without a fight breaking out, or getting hate. It's okay to disagree with someone, but there's no need to make anyone feel bad for having a different opinion.

even if its your opinion, you can't state it because its fucking rude? like wtf is wrong with people today, I am rude idc. Its my personality im not going to change it to look go be liked by more people. Its a opinion, theres no restrictions nor any limits of rudeness, its a opinion not a verbal attack, its kind of constructive criticism.

All I said was that if that's the side of your personality you want to show people, don't be surprised if they don't like it.
A lot of people go by first impressions and some peoples first impression might be "What cool guy! Hes so honest!" and someone elses first impression of you could be more like "Wtf is his problem?! He's rude"
Be however you want to be, I don't care.

 

I was just reflecting on like my past actions and I have to say like I 100% agree with you.
I used to be really rude and cruel and then say stuff like "oh well it's my opinion I'm just being honest" and like now I cannot wrap my head around how I could ever do something just to be mean about it and try to hurt someone's feelings intentionally. I was raised better than that and like the very thought of being cruel to anyone for no reason is ghastly to me now.

Well, there's always a good way to be honest, for example, of course you shouldn't say "You're horrible at managing your temper. Be chill for once! You'll become way more likeable." You could say "You see, it would be a better if you don't lose your temper as much, it could hurt others feelings when you don't know it. I know this may not be your fault sometimes, but it could really help :)"

 

Actually there is. There are rules and if you harass someone then action will be taken.
Just because it's an opinion doesn't mean that it can't be used to harass someone, which is against the rules.

People don't state their opinions to be "cool" or "popular". They aren't held from stating their opinions either. How many times has a thread talking about the server issues been made? These kinds of threads have only been getting locked now because they basically say the same thing over and over again in other words. People only keep remaking them because there isn't that big of a change yet. Who knows, maybe there's something happening that the players don't know about that could fix some of the issues. When people were complaining about the staff ignoring them, they made a whole new system for the server which from what I've heard has really helped. That's probably why the staff keep locking these threads, they are not really necessary.
The reason why there are rules is to keep things civil and every time someone says something like "we're not allowed to state our opinion" or "why did my post get deleted" like, have you even thought about what you posted before you posted it? If you were allowed to post stuff like that, this place would be way worse.
It's like, every time the forums die down from one of these kinds of threads complaining about some tiny thing, a new one has to be made. If there's such of a big problem then you don't need to be on here. I'm not saying that to get rid of people, I'm saying that if it means so much to you and it's making you upset, why even bother spending your time around here. Everyone barely complains about the server, it's the forums and the community. If you don't like it, then you can leave the forums and just play on the server. You can't get rid of members who cause these issues, they only can get rid of themselves by getting themselves banned or leaving. Eventually people will get bored and quit Minecraft like a lot of the old members. There's not much you can do.
So many members spend their time just here to talk with their friends which is fine, but if you do that there's obviously going to be some type of issues within the community. Almost everyone here is young and doesn't have a developed enough brain to even think properly and that's why everyone makes mistakes a lot or the same ones multiple times. If spending all your time with friends is making you upset, then actually try and play the minigames or find a new group of friends that don't make you upset. It's very simple actually and I'm trying it too.

 

why do you keep on making threads about your opinion/rants and lock them a few hours later??
