Chapter 3 is when the action starts c: If you havent read Chapter 1 yet, read it here: http://itsjerryandharry.com/threads/my-book.90550/ Chapter II "Excuse me? Did you say Potastatem?" "Sure did. I heard that you can be granted freedom if you bring back Potastatem alive. Now, can I take this quest or not?" "You just got here yesterday Floyd. How'd you figure out so quickly?" Latro stood up. "I told him." He said. Standing next to Mr. Custodi, Latro looked pretty average sized. I was also feeling pretty short, standing next to two guys who were both 8 inches taller than me. "You won't come back alive, Floyd." Mr. Custodi growled. "Latro said the same thing. Do you think I'm going to let you change my mind?" Mr. Custodi snarled. "Haven't had anyone ask for this in a while. This should be interesting." He grabbed my shoulder and started to drag me out of the cell. "Wait." I said. Mr. Custodi stopped abruptly. "Whaddya waiting for?" He snapped. I looked at Latro, and realized this would be the last time I saw him. I felt bad, even though I hadn't even known him for a day. I hated that I would have to leave him behind. "This is for you, Latro." Latro's face twisted into a crooked smile, but one that filled me with hope. His obsidian eyes sparkled, as he said, "Good luck, Ethan." I figured I would be brought into a courthouse, or something like that, where multiple people would debate the quest. Instead, I was dropped off in a dark room, and before I could say anything, Mr. Custodi spammed the door behind me, and I was alone. For a terrible moment, I thought I was stuck there. Did they just stick people in this room? Was the quest just a charade? Questions were flying through my head when I heard another door open, and the sound of someone walking into the room. It was a man, about 6'2". He had jet black hair that was slicked back. His eyes were obsidian black, as usual. His face was clear as day, no freckles, no acne, no nothing. He wore rounded glasses. His suit was as dark as his eyes. With a deep, raspy voice, he spoke. "Ethan Floyd. I hear you were the one who blew up that Sky Monument or whatever. Not surprised you landed here." I felt anger welling up inside my chest. I didn't have anything to do with the Sky Monument exploding. Why did everyone think it was me? "I didn't do it." I said through clenched teeth. "I don't belong here with these... criminals." I had almost forgotten that this place was filled with the worst criminals on the planet. I thought back to Latro. He seemed so helpful, I couldn't even bring myself to think that he was a bad person. "Pfft. That's what they all say." The man said. "Who are you? I thought I was going to get a weapon and go on the quest." "Oh, don't worry. You'll be on your way in a little bit. For now, you need info. I am the leader of Carcere. Name is Ian Princere." "Yea, whatever. Just give me what I need and let me go on this quest." Ian laughed. It's sounded like chalk on a chalkboard, which made me cringe. "Stop being so eager. Being too eager will get you killed. You need to take your time." "Fine. Tell me what you need to tell me." "Be ready, there's a lot of info to take in." "Alright." "So, once the quest starts, you will be unable to return to the prison or the inhabited parts of Domum. You either bring back Potastatem or die trying." "I heard that you knew the location of Potastatem. Where is it?" I asked. "Potastatem is in a land you will not want to venture to. Beware of that." "I don't care, just tell me where it is." "It is in the Cave of Custos, in the Forest of Malum." My heart sank. The forest of Malum was home to some of the worst evil in the universe. No wonder nobody came back from this quest alive. "So.." I said, trying not to show my fear. "I was told I'd get a weapon. Is that true?" Ian snapped his fingers, and the wall to my right was no longer there. Instead, an array of swords, knives, guns, and other pointy things were staring at me. I stood up from the chair I was sitting in, and walked over to the shelves, mesmerized by the weapons. I had never seen so many lethal weapons in one place. "You get one, and only one." Ian said with a cold voice. I scanned the wall. What would be best? A long range weapon? A melee weapon? I had never shot a gun before, so that was out of the question. I spotted a bow, with a quiver of arrows behind it. But how many arrows would I need? I wasn't really sure if I would have enough, plus I wasn't really that experienced with a bow either. Then, my eyes fixed on a gleaming sword. It was thin, about as long as my arm, and had a nice grip. I picked it up. It was very balanced and light, and it felt good in my hands. I realized that the sword was made of iron, a very durable material. It would last me a long time. I held up the sword to Ian. "I'll take this." I said. "A fine choice. That sword is very historic you know. It has been used in many wars and battles. It is called Lamina." I looked at the sword, and saw its name, Lamina, etched in the blade. "Cool. So, is that all? What kind of obstacles will I face?" I asked. "I don't know." Ian said. "No one has ever returned from the quest alive to tell the story. However, if you bring back Potastatem, you will be granted freedom, and you will be known as a hero." I didn't know what to think. They acted like this quest would be impossible. How hard would it be? Could I really do this? "Alright. I'm ready to go." I said. Ian's face twisted into a wicked smile. "Good luck, Ethan Floyd."
