Okay, so before I start to talk about the purpose of this thread I wanted to clarify that people have different music tastes, opinions and perspectives about music and I respect that. I'll use my perspective mostly objectively so it can apply better. I'll try my best to cover any possibility possible. I'll take use of some really heavy genres as an example for a reason and explain it informatively. There are genres that might not be covered, so if you don't know about a certain genre you want to know, PM me and I'll explain to you. My intention is to let others that possibly might've not known these things about it and how to use it in its ways. You can call it a key to an introspective perspective of yourself, your environment as well experiences. Your music genre preference can also predict your personality. Alright, so we all know that music helps and affects us in different ways. Music can help you express yourself, analyze the sounds that build the songs and most importantly the lyrics that builds the true meaning and is the main purpose of most songs. Each band and genre is its own world and they choose to express it in their own genre and way to help others. So you can say in other words that it is important to gather knowledge from different sources. So let's split the categories of music genres and their effects: Post-hardcore (Or in other words known as "Emo" or its subgenre as well as other related genres): Okay, I won't dig too much into it but many people like mocking this genre. Why? Because it is "emotional", "screamy" and "different". But then there's the good side you can see in this genre, it helps you learning more emotionally of things such as the environment, singer's life, experiences etc. as well leading you to learn general things from lyrics, metaphors as well as oxymorons to challenge the listener to think. The "emotional" term can be intrepeted as emotions and soul being put into the band and songs. But that doesn't mean that other bands don't put their emotions into their songs. It is a very meaningful genre in my perspective. The point about this genre is done. Psychedelic rock: So the psychedelic genre can be seen as a "hippie" or "virtual drugs" etc. But then there's its advantage, it makes you feel stoned, high and possibly even abstract thinking. It elevates the endorphins in your brain and causing you to be happy with its well calculated experimental effects on your ears. If you wanna go to the deep imaginary , creative and abstract world, Psychedelic rock is your choice. Okay, so I promised to cover the heavy genres too. I'll take doom and ambient black metal (calm version of black metal with some screams here and there) as for one similar features as well the distinction between the two. Doom metal has a few subgenres but I'm mainly talking about the normal or usual one as you might call it. Doom metal is a slow riffs with heavy sounds genre. And it can be used to cure some illnesses or cause them and depression depends on how you see it. The feeling that you can identify with is so heavy and similar to that your soul feels or the mind chemicals reactions. TRIGGER WARNING: The despair sounds and longing for death for those who felt sorry for being born, goners or just "ill" will help you cope with your self-grief, depression, anxiety, loneliness and paranoia as well others like other genres. And the last one I'd like to cover is Ambient Black Metal: This genre is a very complex one but like doom metal it helps with suicide, death, nihilism, etc. It is a genre in which there are ambient sounds and sometimes some screams or howls for the singer to express their profound sadness, grief, tiredness of living and other things. If you feel very suicidal and depressed and everything mixed inside, just listen and let your soul express its grief to the beat of the music and the growling/screams. There isn't much lyrics in this genre as it is as abstract as it can get, as well very deep. Thanks for reading my thread, I was glad to share my knowledge and perspectives about different genres. And if this thread helped you in any way, I'm glad to hear. :) Likewise there are genres not covered as obviously I can't cover them all, so if you want I'll either PM you or edit the thread with more explanations. Have a great day, everyone.
