I am not posting this in the help section because this isn't really an issue. I am pretty sure Harry codes all the backend things, but players can connect in 1.8 and 1.7, but there aren't any 1.8 blocks. Do you just use reflection with packets? If not, I am curious how this works.

I think its cause the server is in 1.7 and someone is in 1.8 so you cant use 1.8 blocks because the server is on 1.7?

I don't think its that because I think the server runs spigot with bungeecord, instead of running bukkit with bungee. The spigot api has more features than the bukkit api, but it's pretty much the same thing. Basically, if you are on 1.7.10, and you go on another server that's 1.8 it will say no connection because its craftbukkit/spigot 1.8. Maybe it's a custom thing, I was just curious.

I'm not good with this stuff, but I am almost sure of my answer here....Because this is both 1.7 and 1.8, the new blocks don't have a skin and are really entites in 1.7. So, if you were to go on 1.7 and 1.8 blocks are used, they won't pop up for those users. I am pretty sure that they do for 1.8 users though. If I am wrong which is entirely possible :P, I am curious to see how is works as well.

J&H use Spigot and Spigot has 1.7 but allows 1.8 clients.
Reference: I own a server myself.

I think it has something to do with a "protocol hack" which basically makes your Minecraft client think you're in a 1.8 server, when really, you're in a 1.7 server, so it allows the players to be in 1.8 but I won't allow them to place 1.8 blocks because the server isn't actually in 1.8.

Itsharry doesn't write this. It's called a protocol hack, each mc version has its own "protocol" for example 1.7.9 has the protocal "5". The protocal will just allow clients to connect to a server with a different protocal with the exception of not being able to use anything "new".
