Tought luck Mineplex it wasn't anything personal, Hypixel you're next! Spoiler in all seriousness, damn. Sad to see it go like that. Rip
Is there any decent sized servers even left anymore apart from Hypixel? Looking at this: https://minecraft-server-list.com/sort/PlayersOnline/ there's a massive gulf between Hypixel and the next server (like honestly, why did that happen?), and it seems like Hypixel is the only minigame server on the list.
most of those player counts are fake anyway, other than niche servers (eg. wynncraft, 2b2t) there's just no reason to go anywhere besides hypixel, easy to blame the devs (like people did here) but it was clear 5 years ago already that this was the way it was headed
I've said this before but one the biggest strengths of this server was how it was able to keep costs down. This is mostly speculation, but from my understanding servers like Mineplex, McGamer, Hive, ect had bloated infastructure that costed insane amounts of money to run. That works when you're successful, but it also means your critical mass (amount of people needed on the server to remain viable) is much higher. Because (to my knowledge) J&H did most of server development work, and the community (largely) voulnteered to pitch in for maps and staffing, this server was able to keep costs at a realitive minimum. In turn this meant it could last longer, and in some cases signifigantly longer, than it probably should have.
No, this is completely wrong. ItsJerryAndHarry used child labor and modern-slavery as a method to keep costs down, although initial investment was quite expensive once we built a steady foundation with the people that offered the children and slaves needed we we're able to cut deals with them that would save money in the long run. The process itself was a blast though, the entire crew would fly out to Dubai and China and have meetings there with the people who offered their services. We would often party and go out on fancy dinners with them in order to gain trust and build steady work-relationships with them. I still have contact to this day with a few of them, and am actually planning to fly out to Dubai soon again. But in their silliness they ask me questions like ''Is your liver undamaged?'' ''How are your lungs?'' haha, jokesters. Volunteers is a good suggestion though, we should have thought of that before. That wouldn't cost anything and the time to train them would be the same. But you live and you learn.
