I need to get this off my chest and get some help. I feel comfortable with this community and think that there are good people here who could give me advice.
(If you're one of those people who rolls their eyes at people who rant online, this probably isn't the thread for you. There's always a back button.)

For a long time now, I've wanted to be an animator, but to be an animator you kind of need to be a good artist otherwise your animation is automatically terrible.

I've also wanted to draw things for fun. I see the final product in my head, but when I go ahead and start working on it, something goes wrong and I end up quitting.

There are a lot of things I've wanted to draw, but will never see the light of day because I lack the patience to finish them.

    It's kind of a paradox:
I want to draw, but don't have the practice, I quit and don't gain practice because I have no patience.

So I need some advice from the artists of this community. How do I gain faith in motivation in myself to do things like drawing?

Please try to stray away from the "Just keep trying!" excuse. If I keep failing I just end up losing even more faith in my work.

(It's not just drawing, either. Often times I don't have the motivation for nearly everything.)

Sorry for the messy composure of this thread. These thoughts are hard for me to organize I guess.

well star, i dont really know what to say, but ill try my best

the way i get drawings done, is that i keep myself inspired. I play music to go along with it, i keep thinking about how awesome the drawing is going to turn out, and just keep going until the final product is done. If you get impatient with a drawing stop and take a break. and when you feel inspired again, start working on your drawing again. the more you focus on it, and if you keep it up, you can make some really good drawings, Kind of like how i did when i drew the Dinobots for mod mayhem, its hard to draw in the Micheal bay style because the Dinobots have a lot of panels and parts that make them up, but i take breaks and i do something else. Its better to slowly draw up what you want, instead of doing it all in one sitting.

Like the old saying goes, "You can't rush art."

    hope this helps star :)

    Alright
Im not good at this, but I do draw much, mostly on paper, so I'll try helping.
If you wanna draw something, then you probably first need a goal, a picture in your head off what your drawing need to look like, focus on it. First when I drawed I only had a pencil. It's more funnier when you're having more tools, colours, and such. If it's too bored, find inspiration, and make it funny to draw. If It's a drawing there will take you a while, whatch a movie while you're drawing. It's pretty nice to do that. Trust me. I've been working on sick arts, while whatching avatar, which inspired me more and blablbla. I don't get that feeling often. So I hope it helped anyway.

I get what you mean. I frequently lack ambition to do many things, whether it be work on music, edit a video, or whatever. I know this sounds kinda crude and weird, but I just think to myself, "Fuck motivation. Get to work." And that gets me started. Once I've started, it's easier to carry on with the task at hand. Then, after a while, I stop because I get bored or tired. Then, I lack motivation again because I stopped. So, what do I do? I think the same thing again.

I like to listen to music while drawing.

I am also a precastinator, meaning if I start something, I want to finish as fast as I can which is also a big help in this >u>

Maybe have a set plan? Like, draw this, this and this?

Drawing is something you can't force. Browse the internet, get some ideas. Find something that you are really passionate to draw, and focus on that.

    Tips for drawing:

Trace first. Just do the lines with a light pencil the go over those lines with pen or colored pencil, whichever you see fit.

Once you traced & drew & colored, I suggest taking the broadside of a pencil, draw lightly in an area, & use your finger to smudge it so it creates a very nice shaded area.

    Just some tips.
