Hi! I need help on something today... I want to be an artist/animator when I get older, but my dad has saved up $500,000 for me to go to a university or college. I don't think he wants me to be an artist. I tried to have a conversation with him, and he's always like, 'Oh, so you want to be a graphic designer.' or, 'You can't just be an animator.' I don't know what to do. I know he wants me to be successful, but I don't want to be a business man like him... Sorry, if I am acting like a super rich kid right now. I just don't know how to convince my dad that this is what I want to do. Any suggestions?
Have a serious talk with your father saying it's your passion and it's what you want. :) That's my best advice.
This is basically my life. I've wanted to go to an art school in my area for the past two years. At the beginning of the year, I started to ease my parents into it and they were reluctant right away but now, I'm going next year. Don't jump right on it, but like @Radii said, talk to him. Plan everything out and make sure what specific or narrow down to a few specific careers you want and look into both the pros and cons of that job and any questions he might have so you can answer them. To look dedicated, mature and prepared, look into arts colleges. For example, although I draw and paint, I also love to perform so I want to go to Juilliard. If you aren't comfortable directly talking to him, try writing a persuasive/informative essay or a powerpoint. Best of luck to you and if you ever want to talk you can pm me c: <3
