So I'm in school and this semester is almost over. I'm in grade 10 and I have 2 provincial exams this term. One of them happens to be math, which is definitely not my best subject. The thing is, I'm not even passing my math class right now. I've been working my ass off and completing all my missed assignments so that I can get a better grade, however my teacher is pretty terrible and he constantly puts me down and tells me my effort isn't worth it. I have a week and a half to get my grades up and pass the exam or I'll be stuck repeating the course. I have a tutor and he helps me sometimes and if I still fail after his help I'll feel terrible. My parents constantly harass me about passing the course and they will be infinitely disappointed if I fail. I'm really struggling right now and I'm trying my absolute best. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to pass the course? Like I said I already have a tutor and I've tried talking to my teacher but he terrifies me and whenever he comes near me I tense up and can't say a word. I really need to pass or my life will fall apart. TL;DR: I'm failing math class and I have limited time before the semester ends. I need advice on how to pass before it ends.
All I can say is Study,Study, And Study. I'm only in 8th Grade, so I have much easier math. But Studying always helps you know.
The best advice I can give you is to not be afraid of your teacher. It may seem like he is not their to help and is just their to make you feel like you are giving your best effort. Just stand up and ask for help and it will all be over with. I'm 100% sure that your teacher would spend some time helping you out then to just let you fail. Like said just study, study and then study again. Maybe try using the internet to do some practice of the things that you have trouble on. Good luck on the exam. Hope all goes well. :)
Thanks for the advice, I have in fact been studying a lot and it doesn't really seem to help. Thanks for the advice, but it's really hard not to be afraid of him. He always picks on me and makes me feel like a piece of crap and I almost cried when he insulted me one day. He pretty much said that I should just go home and I shouldn't bother trying because I'm worthless and I'm never gonna pass. I was able to ask him for help before but now it's gotten so bad that I feel really anxious whenever he's around, I really do try but he loves putting me down even if it's for motivation. Thanks again for that advice, I really am trying but even my friends who are doing really well in the class are somewhat scared of the teacher.
Study, get a tutor, check your homework, all that basic stuff. There's a really good site I use for Japanese called quizlet, it might help with math too. Finals are stressing me out too, I know. Just don't let the pressure get to you, and focus.
Well, what things in maths are you struggling with? Make a list of the things you're confused with (like a revision guide) and maybe tell your tutor and see if he can help you get better at those. You could also buy a revision book or two, they aren't expensive and you get them online or in your nearest book/stationary store and then you can read through them for a bit. Good luck :)
Go over the things your struggling with and make sure you know them, it always helps to study the things you do know or wont remember so all I can say it study and good luck. :)
Me has some cheats for you :) Before the exam go to the toilets and write some answers for questions you wont get on the toilet seat then during the exam go to the toilet and look at the answers! I mean the teachers can escort you but they cant go to the toilet with you ew. Then once u have seen answers rub dem off xD Have a bottle of water and write answers on the inside cap thing. Only like 1 will fit oh well Wear false nails and write answers on the underneath part idk my sis did this xD I hate false nails Im to lazy to revise but not lazy enough to cheat ;)
Just study a lot (you might need to buy some red bull for the occasion) and if you need some help, ask your parents nicely for some help.
I understand my math teacher is pretty shit too. Literally she doesn't help us at all and she takes bits and pieces of lesson from other teacher, but that's not the point。 What I do is go to the tutoring, which you already have so good job。If you don't understand something in math, ask someone。Say, a friend, another math teacher, or your parents。Parents only as a last resort if you are in common core though。Common core sucks and my parents have no idea what the hell to do when I need help。Try to focus on what you really don't understand, like "I don't really get how to solve problems with fractions"。If you can, ask your teacher or other teachers for homework answer keys (HOMEWORK THAT YOU ALREADY DID, TUNRED IN, AND HAVE A GRADE FOR DONT CHEAT) and go over the problem you got wrong。Try to figure out what you did wrong and redo the problem。You don't have to do this for every problem because it take up a lot of time, but for the ones you didn't get to the point you just skip it on homework。That brings me to another tip- if you see a problem you don't know how to do at least try。It might ring up in your head。Look at your notes or something。if you truly honestly have no fucking clue how to do it skip it and ask your teacher or a friend to go over it。 TL;DR get help from others and go over problems you don't know with other friends or teachers。And don't cheat。
i know you don't want to do this but ask for more work and do it during tutoring. also, TAKE NOTES!!!!!!
First of all, since your teacher is acting like that, u should really talk about it to the principal. I mean seriously wtf. Second of all, since your having a hard time in math I suggest keeping calm about it first. Stressing makes everything a bit harder than it already is. Then I suggest asking for help on math from multiple people like someone who is good at math or your friends that u said r doing pretty good. Otherwise can u tell me what type of math your failing at? I may be able to help or know some people that might help. Gl Uni. you were always there for me and now it's time for me to try and repay back the favor.
I'm sorry to hear this. 1. Your teacher can't do this to you. I think you should be brave and tell somebody who works at the school about this. The principal, counselor, etc. 2. Even though you're having a hard time, stay calm! If you keep thinking about your grades 24/7 then you won't get anything done. It will lower your positivism. Take notes, or ask for help on your math! Basic stuff, get a tutor that has better ratings, and study a lot. And remember, try your best! I hope the exams go well. Best of luck to you. Super
Your teacher shouldn't be doing that to you, so make sure you do something about that. Here are my studying tips; I'm in tenth grade as well and I'm currently on an A in maths. -Write down all of the topics you have to learn for the exam. Make sure you get all of them. -Grab a highlighter and highlight the topics you are confident with. -All of the ones that are left over, make sure you study them until you understand them. Go to your textbook and read the chapter that it starts at and look at the textbook examples. If the textbook is bad at explaining or you don't have a textbook, look at tutorials online. There are heaps, and they help a lot. -If you have to memorize formulas, use flash cards. Write the formula on one side and the name of the formula on the other side, and quiz yourself on the formula/s until you get it right. -Practice, practice, practice. Get a question that you might be struggling with, do it even if you have no idea what to do, and then look at the answer and compare it to your answer. Try to get answers that have the working with it, and then you can look at the steps to solving the question and it will be easier to understand. -When it comes to the exam, have an answer to every question. Even if you have no idea what to do, write down some parts of the question and do a bit of working out that might help you get marks for the question. For my most recent exam, I had absolutely no idea what to do for the last 3 questions, so I just wrote down some things I knew about the topic, which got me some extra marks, which led me into getting an A. I hope this helped, let me know if you want any more tips. Good luck!
about the teacher issue, I have told my parents about what he said and my mom emailed my teacher, he apologized but also used an excuse that he was trying to "motivate" me. I wanted her to email the principal as well but my mom refused. I cannot express how thankful I am to all of your support to everyone who has replied to this thread, finals are in a week and I'll be working as hard as ever to make sure I pass. Thank you all for the advice, the more I can get the better. Thank you guys so much <3
