If you don't know what a harem is, it's a genre of anime which is basically 4-6 girls tripping over themselves for one guy, and it just frustrates me SO MUCH. Like, the characters are all one dimensional and they are just so annoying. There's always the tsundere, the girl who is way too nice, the quite girl, the girl who looks like she's 9 or something, and his sister or some messed up stuff like that. Each girl gets about one episode for some really forced character development, and then it's just useless filler. And the main character does close to nothing. He just sits there awkwardly as these girls perform some kind of circus act to impress him. I don't understand how anyone could actually enjoy watching that. By the end of the show, nothing changes. The main character doesn't end up with anyone it turns out that watching the show was just a waste of time. I could say a lot more, but yeah. Harems suck. I just needed to get that off my chest. It was so hard to do this without swearing.
I thought about Nisekoi the whole time, but then I thought about SAO xD Yah it kinda pisses me off when some plot development happens but then a baseball breaks a window or something stupid like that, blocking the plot. I don't really frequent harem anime, but I live one when I watch my best friend get attacked by tsunderes or something :/
Wow that reminds me of this one episode of the Monkees (The Monkees Get Out More Dirt). The four idiots swoon over a laundromat owner named April. They take on interests she likes (ballet, pop art, chamber music, and motorcycling) and soon get delusional during the musical romp part of the show.
But what about... reverse harems....? Anyways, I agree with you on that. Most animes with harem elements in them are stupid because they're just made to service the boys out there watching it pretending they're the main character when in reality they have to actually go out and be a person if they want girls to notice them.
Harems actually appear in a LOT of anime shows. Most of them are boring, but I have watched two that have caught my eye. They both have a hint of Harem elements. The Kaichyo's A Maid Sama, Special A But I think in these its the boys swarm over the girl.. Eh.
