Half-Life 3 Cancelled, Story Released.

I know I'm posting this everywhere and it's probably getting annoying at this point, but I think it's important that this gets seen so everyone that cares can have some closure.

I'm sure you all remember the jokes about Half-Life 3 from 2012-2015 and even before that. They were everywhere you looked. A lot of us genuinely hoped it would come out soon, while others were just in it for the joke. I was both I guess, because while I only played the first Half-Life and never finished it, I still at least hoped the game would come out for real someday, and then maybe I'd get around to playing it.

Eventually most of us stopped caring and the meme died, as they usually do. But the hope stayed strong for some sort of news, confirmation, or even release teases.

And yes, this is real. This was released by the former director of Half-Life, who left Valve last year. Figures he'd want to get off the sinking ship as soon as possible.

I'd dare go as far to call Valve games a huge part of my childhood (if you consider preteen-early teen childhood) and seeing the direction they're going in, cancelling Half-Life and making a DOTA card game that not even DOTA players seem to want:

Just makes me feel really sad and kind of betrayed. I can't say I'm crying over this, but I feel almost like I've lost some part of me. I don't know if I can bring myself to never play a Valve game ever again, but the actions of this company are just heinous. With masterpieces like TF2, Portal, Left4Dead and obviously Half-Life, you have to wonder what went wrong. Part of the blame goes to TF2 being littered with micro transactions I guess, but I don't think that killed the good Valve I knew and loved singlehandedly.

So rest in peace Half-Life, and all our hopes and dreams. Take this news how you will, and if you don't take it seriously, I can't say I blame you. To outsiders this probably seems like a really petty thing to get upset over. To die-hard Valve fans though, this news is almost like getting hit by a ton of bricks.

 

Valve has been on a downward spiral for a while now, least when it comes to their games.
I was not around or was not old enough when either of the Half-Life games came out, so I did not really get to play either of them, and even then I never was interested in playing either of the two games. Of course I still hoped for a sequel though as everyone did, but looking at it now it definitely seems like that ship has sailed.
I still play TF2 and Left 4 Dead, the latter has basically remained unchanged since a year after its release, and TF2 now rarely gets updates anymore besides a bug fix update every now and then, and I will not say it killed TF2 but it has become more or less dull from how it used to be. A sequel to any of the three games mentioned so far, (that is not a card game), would probably be the thing to bring life back into those games, but I unfortunately do not see that happening anymore.

Aww.. That really does suck. Even though I Never played any of the Half life games, I knew people who did, So this must've been devastating news to hear if you were a fan of this game. Not only that, but Portal and TF2 were also fantastic games that deserved a continuation of their stories, but now it seems that this isn't going to happen. :(

I don't really play valve games anymore but it sucks to see that we aren't going to get a third installment of a beloved series. Rest in peace Valve company.

 

Or what it used to be. EA is considered better than VALVE now. Let that sink in.
