So a couple weeks ago, Eurovision 2018 finished. Some of you are all like: Eurovision! I love that contest! I watch it every year! and the rest of you are all like: wtf is eurovision Let me explain. Eurovision is an annual song contest with participants from most of Europe including some other countries like Israel and Australia. There is a Jury and a Televoting system for each country, and you are allowed to vote for which song you think was the best as well as the Jury. The Jury can give a country up to 12 points, which would be really lucky for the nation's song. The Jury and Televote points are added up and whoever came first (i.e the country with the most points) wins the competition and Eurovision will be held in the country that won. This year, Israel won the competition, with Cyprus in 2nd and Portugal came last (though the actual competition was held in Portugal). This means that next year, Israel will hold Eurovision 2019. However, a lot of people criticised Netta (the singer of the Israeli song) because they didn't like the song and although it was singing about female rights, they said that the lyrics did not make sense. The song is named Toy, so I'll let you decide. Click HERE to see Israel's song, which achieved 1st place. Click HERE to see Cyprus's song, which achieved 2nd place. Click HERE to see Italy's song, which achieved 3rd place. Now, click HERE to see Estonia's song, which achieved 9th. If you want to see all of the countries' points with the Jury and Televote added together, look HERE. All the scores are mentioned. Out of these songs, which do you think deserved to win, and do you like Netta's song? In my opinion, I didn't really like Netta. I think Estonia was really good, as well as Cyprus. What about you?
Israel's song sucked. The lyrics were stupid and the dance was weird. But the reason it was so great is because it was catchy as fuck. Everyone was singing it, everyone knew the lyrics. It was so unique and stupid that it instantly became viral. Everyone here in Israel knew the song, made fun of it but loved it. I don't think music needs to have a strong message and give you chills in order to be good, there's nothing wrong with having a little fun sometimes. Especially if you're doing it in such a unique way. And yeah, she may have looked a little weird, my driving teacher said there's no way we're gonna win because she literally looks like a whale, but I think she's very talented (as shown, for example, in the acoustic version of the song) and the song was more fun than other songs, so I liked it. Cyprus' song was alright. She was good but the song just wasn't that interesting. I absolutely loved Estonia's song and I thought it was going to win, but apparently I was wrong. Italy was just eh. Anyway, I'm not surprised that much that we won and it's been a while since we won so no need to get salty like some people here did...
I agree with you about Israel, it was really fucking catchy... Cyprus was fine, it is a bit average but I like those songs. But I still wanted Estonia's opera to win.
