So this is a thread about the Emmy awards.

My mother, last year, won an Emmy (her name will be kept anonymous for personal reasons) in her category, and she is now being nominated for another Emmy for the 4th year in a row.

    This is her story.

My mother was born on March 18th, off the coast of Africa in the Canary Islands. These islands are part of Spain, and my family has a rich history there.

When she was growing up, she was abused by her father, being a smoker and an alcoholic. He would rip apart clothing that her mother made for her, with her own time and money, saying that it was a waste of money when in reality he would be the one wasting it.
When she was almost/or was an adult, her father passed away from lung cancer. She claims that she did not feel emotion when he passed from the trauma he had done to her. She kept pushing though, and found herself a job as a news reporter in Spain.

She married a man that she met in high school, but the relationship was brief after they believed they were not meant for each other. In this time, my oldest sister was born, which is now 22 and has a child of her own and another one on the way.

She began dating another man. She left the islands for a cruise, where she met my father. He was starstruck when he first saw her. He constantly flirted with her, and would never leave her alone.

When she came back, it was said that the person she was dating was going to propose to her, but obviously, that didn't happen as she was reading a letter that my Dad wrote that had a rose on it. The man that she was dating has informed her this a few years later, and he is not mad at her.

Moving a few months as I don't know this, he kept sending her letters, every, single, day. Her mother thought he was insane, which I would too if this man kept sending my daughter letters.

He eventually came to visit her from Germany (he is not German), and they kept in touch through phone.

On my fathers birthday, (this is when they were dating I presume) my father was asked what he wanted for his birthday. He asked for my mothers marriage.

Long story short, they got married in Denver, Colorado, which eventually led to the creation of my sister in 2001 and me in 2003.

Somewhere in this time, my father left to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She continued to pursue her job as a reporter at Univision, a Spanish news station. Since this is a little bit unclear to me, I will skip a few bits.

Shortly after, she decided to quit her job at Univision, and moved onto Telemundo. She stayed at Denver to pursue this job while my sister and I (and my father) left to Bettendorf, Iowa because he was in the military.

Her time at Telemundo was a brief one year, but the people loved her. She still get's requests to come back to Denver 5 years after. She is truly one of the best News Directors/Reporters ever.

During her time at Telemundo, however, she got to interview president Barrack Obama. Twice.

As a family decision, we all decided to move to Virginia where we would be living for a while. She had to leave her job at Telemundo (as said earlier), and she joined CNN EspaƱol. She absolutely hated her time there, they treated her like nothing.

She quit her job at CNN, and told the bosses that they're terrible and should be fired from their job.

We then decided to move again, maybe 25 miles south of where we were before.

When looking for a job, she found another job at another Telemundo station, which ironically was right next
door from where we used to live, literally. It's like, 20 steps away.
During this 2 year period, my father decided to leave the military and pursue retirement.

We are now living 20 miles more south from where we used to live, and we are soon to move again.

She won an Emmy during her time at Telemundo last year, and is soon to win another one (hopefully) with Telemundo again.

Thank you for reading her story.
