Hi, it's me, Smg. Here's Chapter 1-2 of my story. I have a prologue up, and this continues from that. If you haven't read it, and want to know how my characters' got into their positions, feel free to read it. There's a link in my information page that leads you to the prologue. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this one. :) Chapter 1. I wake up in a pool of my own sweat. I just had another one of those nightmares, about the zombies. I keep forgetting that we’re safe, and that I’ll never have to experience anything like that again. I quickly rise, and look at myself in the reflection of the water. All I see is panic.Most of the community is still asleep, except for the nightly guard, Chevy. I slowly make my way to him, and he surprisingly doesn’t notice me. I have the urge to cough, and I do. Chevy then quickly notices me. “Danny, my man. What brings you up so early?” I stutter, but I quickly respond. “Had another nightmare, about the zombies.” “Dude, you got to calm down. We’re safe, trust me. You saw what happened.” What he was talking about happened one year ago. We had been still getting used to our new community, when we finally eradicated the last zombie held up in the Town Hall. From then on, we inhabited the building. “Yeah, I know. Just can’t forget what happened.” Chevy then replies, “No one can. We lost 24 people, Danny. We just need to forget about it, and worry about the present.” “I guess you’re right. I’m going to head back to bed, I’ll see you soon.” “I shall see you as well.” *** I wake up normally, surprisingly. I start to yawn as I notice my fellow campers. I try my best to get a sleeping bag out in the forest, because I like to look at the stars-with complete silence. I notice a familiar face, of Kacie Clark in fact. I think to myself, “Man, oh man, she’s just something.” I see her lacing up her boots, and I try to grab the courage to talk to her. After about 2 minutes, she just casually walks into the town. It’s crazy that I can’t talk to a single girl even after going through what I went through. I pack my belongings up, and head out to the town as well. Chapter 2. As I enter the destroyed gate, I start to see a crowd of people. I whisper to myself, “Something must’ve happened.” I make my way through the crowd, surprisingly being easy enough. That’s when I see him. Ryder Jamesworth. Him and I used to be best friends, until the apocalypse arose. Since then, we’ve become as far apart as this community is starting to be. I can already start to hear his voice, and know that something’s up. I quickly make my way towards the front of the line, and see his face. “My friends, my friends. We need to do som-Why, hello Daniel.” “Yo, Ryder.” I reply “It’s good to see that you finally care enough to be in your own home town. Why do you even live in that wretched forest anyway?” I become offended, but try to keep my cool. “I like to be alone.” I can already start to hear the chatter without the rest of the community-most likely about our little “rivalry”, if you can call it that. Ryder then says something that really gets on my nerves. “Dan, my friend. I know what’s going on here. I know about our little rivalry, and the conflict between us. I know that we’re both struggling for control, and I can see why. You’re a power addict;once you have just a little ounce of power, you want more.” “Ryder, you know that’s not true. Stop putting lies into these peoples heads. It’s not solving anything.” “I want you to ask that to yourself. Is ridiculing me solving anything? Is trying to make me out to be the bad guy helping? I hope you know the right answer.” That’s when everyone hears the voice of Jake Hill. “Stop. Both of you. This isn’t solving anything. Ryder, you called us here for a town meeting, and look what you turned this into- an argument between two people secretly but obviously going for total power. And this isn’t just towards you, Ryder. It’s towards Daniel as well. Dan, you didn’t have to cut through the line to just see your old pal Ryder. You could’ve just listened like the rest of us. All in all, this needs to stop.” His words shock me, and I realize what I’m doing. I studder a little, but I finally get some words out. “Ryder, he’s right. We’re both acting childish with this nonsense, we got to stop it once and for all.” Surprisingly, Ryder says that he agrees. What he said next however, didn’t surprise me at all. “I have an idea. I propose that we pick a sole leader for this cause. A leader that will keep us alive, and hopefully keep us safe.” My jealously/anger takes control of me, and I reply to him. “Fine. I say that we should have a vote on who can run for the position. We shall have the voting tomorrow. Let’s just end this, and continue it then.” Jake replies with his own opinion. “Don’t you see? You both are going along with this, because you think that it’s all about power. We need someone who is willing to make sacrifices for the better good. We need a leader. I agree with the poll, but listen to me right now. This will have its good outcomes, but it will have its bad outcomes as well. You both need to make the smart choice.” Ryder replies to Jake words’, “I couldn’t have said it better myself. We will have the poll in the morning of tomorrow. Until then, everyone continue on with your normal duties.” Everyone starts to leave, as we all know that this little talk-fest is over. I just stand in silence, and can’t stop thinking about what this could do to the community. Edit: I'm still trying to fool around with this indenting thing. It's just kind of "complicated" or "hard" for me, since I'm not used to doing it on this forum. I'll try to fix this as I go on with this story.
