I always used to hate this as a kid. Whenever I passed Lavender, my goal was to get out as soon as possible.
It has high pitched sounds that only children can hear. That part is legit. The suicide thing is probably not as likely, but it was a huge rumor and the sole reason for a remake in gen 3.
Spicy showed me that it's actually a pretty sad, yet hopeful song... So I like it now :)

 

Oh yes, I love this song. Honestly, the fact that it's a area with a huge looming tower filled with dead pokemon....
It's one of those songs that you have to think into to enjoy.
And they remade it perfectly in FireRed/LeafGreen.

i honestly almost cried when i started listening to it

 

My friend said her cousin tried to commit because they hacked their game so the whole game was turned into one big Lavender Town O.O

Though, this BGM may have gave me a headache in the past, I don't really care right now. I can listen to it as much as I want, since I don't really hear the missing frequences. Oh Lavender Town, may you return in Generation 7?

There's one specific creepypasta game that scared the hell of out of me in Lavender Town.

One thing I would wish with this BGM is this:

2. Put the Lavender Town song in the school's microphone.

It's weird...the first time I heard that song...I felt really low.
Not just normal "sad": low. I can't explain it.

I perfer Heartgold/Soulsilver's version...but sadly I'm mot quite sure where I put my Soulsilver game, and I think my Pokéwalker's busted. :(

 

I honestly never played the game...but the high pitched sounds give me a fking headache...ouch

Yeah, because of rumors that it was a suicide song an if you heard the high notes, you would commit suicide, they changed it.
(It's a true story by the way, there WAS an increase in suicide of people who played that game :3 )
