I purchased gmod not too long ago, but i have been kind of nervous about downloading it to my pc

I kind of have a shady history with the game, and i dont want history to repeat itself, and you may be wondering why. So i will tell you. Back in 2011 i got garrys mod on my old old pc, and i was so excited because it was a game where i could do anything. So i downloaded a lot of addons and other things to enchance my experience with farrys mod. But what i didnt know was how dangerous it was to get addons. I never got them from the toybox but from a website named Garrysmod.org, where you actually had to go into the games directory files and put the addon in that way. and you had to have winRAR to do it, I ended up getting a bunch of viruses and it destroyed my computer.

But now theres the thing called steam workshop, and i hear its much safer But im still afraid to get gmod and addons in general because i do not want history to repeat itself.

So the question i am asking is this.. Is garrys mod and the steam workshop actually safe? I do want to play again but dont want to take the chances of ruining my new pc either.

 

Yes, Garry's mod on Steam is still safe. Just change your password every now and then, for security measures.
