To clarify: The purpose of that thread about how to do a helper application was to explain some finer details the format doesn't. Think of the format as the TL;DR version that only shows the format you have to write it in. That thread is the longer more detailed version, which shows you the exact things we look at in an app and what kind of things might get an instant deny.
