Stolen maps / arenas

I just compared both maps and they are insanely similar. There's a one block difference between the length and width of the map on J&H and the map on Hypixel.

Same colors for the walls, same pillars on the walls, same arena size, the exact same concept, same platform height, even the same slab type for the platform. This is not being inspired, this is just straight up unoriginal.

Building a map so similar to another map and claiming it to be "inspired" by it, even if it was built from scratch, is copying.

 

Pretty much the walls are more detailed, other than that it might have been inspired by but it's very similar to the hypixel one.

 

Guys, I'm going to be honest, but arguing about this is going nowhere. Will they remove the map? I don't think so. Does it ruin your PvP experience? no.

I don't really see the big deal about it.

I'm not arguing to get the map removed. I'm arguing because I'm against copying. I, and hopefully many others in the community, expect the building team to come up with original ideas in the future and not copy others' ideas, which is kind of unprofessional. We have very good builders in here, they can do better than this.

Plus, someone else worked on that map for Hypixel and not for us. I'm sure they don't want their ideas to be copied with no credit.

Who cares even? There's no copyright on anything on it, honestly. Adding it too it so it's a game, there's a load of places copying other places things or makes close looking once. Why bother so much about it? Also minecraft them self doesn't care, think of all the sg maps being "stolen/copied" from other networks? does the server owner's care? No because there's no copyright on it, no server has it honestly. I'd like to add that I've not seen one map being stolen or copied from another network from here, there never has not will surely. Why'd hire builders of they are suppose to copy others things? it doesn't make sense. People get inspiration from other people's work but they once again doesn't need their permissions if they haven't copyrighten it which hypixel hasn't. That's what I've to say.

 

Okay okay, having such a similar map on the network isn't illegal, but it's just not a cool thing to do.

For example, when SG was added, I recall having a few unoriginal maps, but the expectations weren't so high because there was no build team. We had pretty much one guy build everything on the entire server. SG maps are huge and way more detailed than simple 1v1 maps, which makes them harder to build, so using unoriginal maps was a pretty reasonable and okay thing to do.

Later on, our build team added fantastic original SG maps, they did a really good job. They added more and more things during the years, and most of them were really good. That should prove to you that the J&H builders are capable of building themselves and that they don't need to copy to provide high quality maps to the community.

So why copy? Because it's not copyrighted?

 

We're really complaining over J&H taking a barely detailed map with only a tree and a circle in the middle...
Even if they did copy, you have to admit, they made it look better.

Its like me going on J&H copying a map and changing abit of it and claim it as MINE!!

At least give some credit.

 

So to those of you that are really upset I have a solution. I will be on C3 for the next couple hours. If you wanna help me make a new 1v1 map that I will suggest to Willy come pm me and Say I wanna help. I will gladly build one with you guys.

 

Can ya'll atleast appreciate on how hard Gamerrizz built the map? Really don't like to make it a big problem. I'm sure the administrators will atleast do something about it. I know inspired is another term of copying for you all, but atleast appreciate Gamerrizz, the man has been building for ya'll to be entertained or atleast enjoy.

Ya'll are just being whiny at this point. One thing this server has always gotten right was giving credit where credit was due. A builder takes inspiration on a map, giving his own touch to it and it's suddenly ''not cool''?

I got amazingly triggered over that comment because I don't even understand how this whole situation impacts you at all. Will you sleep better at night if we mention inspirations next time?

It was never stated that it was not similar, it has a lot of similar traits, then again @Gamerrizz took Hypixel's arena as a ''role model''. Because that is what people do in life, they look at people who got something right, and they try to get it right too.

So it looks similar, ALMOST THE SAME, and so what? I'll put a little sign at the corner talking about the inspirational process behind it, so you can feel better about this whole situation. Actually, I really will, so this just stops.
