NOTICE: If you plan to comment on this, please at least take the time to read it thoroughly. It's not intended to offend anyone. As many of my friends know, I am very liberal. I've spent most of my life so far in Seattle, which is an extremely Democratic city. I don't personally know anyone in real life who supports Trump, and everyone was crying at my school today- teachers and students alike. However, I've been doing my best to hold back on my opinions- at least until this election crap dies out. We all have our own biases and ideologies, but almost all of us (me and everyone I know included) are simply too self-centered to see the other side. Today, I got on the server to escape this chaos only to find that everyone on the server was gnawing on each other. I was severely disappointed, and I'd just like to say a few things to both of the bigger sides of this fight. To Fellow Hillary Supporters: Losing is tough, as you've probably figured out by now. We won the popular vote, yet not the electors. We won't be breaking the progressive boundaries we had hoped to break today, tomorrow, or the next day. However, this one loss shouldn't make you lose your faith in our country, our system, and our democracy. Our system is nowhere near perfect, but it's the best we've got. Our system has elected Donald Trump, and we have to cope with it. It may take days, weeks, or months, but you have to at least try. Yes, Donald Trump brags about sexually assaulting women, is xenophobic, sexist, and racist, and doesn't pay taxes, but this is who our country elected, so there must be at least something good people see in him. I know it's hard, but don't engage in arguments. They're worthless at this point. Arguing makes us look stupid, desperate, and horrible, especially when we are the instigators. You have to show everyone that you are strong, and that you are proud, and that you can deal with whatever this damned country throws at us, because above all, we believe in democracy. P.S. This article: http://waitbutwhy.com/2016/11/its-going-to-be-okay.html helped me feel a bit better, it's worth checking out. For Trump Supporters: Congratulations - I'm not a Trump supporter, so I can't share what you are feeling, but you've won, and you're proud. However, even though you are celebrating, you can't deny the fact that Hillary won the popular vote. If the public decided on presidents, Hillary would have been elected. Your win is mostly because of the Electoral College. Because of this, you should be grateful. Hillary's supporters are already upset. No matter how angry or desperate they look, underneath, they're all upset. You need not rub in that Trump won, because it was a close election; it could have been anyone's game. I urge you to, before throwing names or insults, to think this: How would you feel if your hopes and dreams were just thinly crushed? How would you feel if someone continued to brag in front of you? Hillary fairly and willingly conceded to Trump. You don't have to call her a Satanic witch or mock her anymore. Quit it. It's over. If you encounter anyone throwing names at Trump and his supporters, just be the better person and ignore them. They're desperate, and they hope that in some strange way that they can alter the outcome (I know this because I am a Democrat myself). For Everyone: This community was completely fine a few days before the election. But, on election day, deep divides were very apparent. Friends were separated from friends, staff were separated from staff. It has been a stressful week for all of us. I urge you to persist in your friendships, and forget what you learned about your friends on election day, especially if your ideologies correlate. This community is held together by friendships and relationships that are essential like seams; As they break, the whole server chaotically falls apart, as we have been seeing. If you absolutely have to argue, at least do it in the diplomatic way, by respecting each other's opinions, and supporting your claim with sufficient evidence. Do your best not to instigate, or to join in flamewars. For me and many others, J&H is a safe place where we can truly be ourselves, free from discrimination. If anyone tries to trigger you, just be the better person, and ignore them. There's just so much hate right now on both sides. We can't be at war with the people we live beside. Minecraft is for fun, not politics. Thanks for hearing me out, Praetor P.S. Proof that Hillary won the popular vote, with 99% of the country reporting:
Thomas Jefferson once wrote a letter to William Hamilton, and said, "I never once considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend" I think that this quote fits well with this discussion and the overall 2016 Presidential Election. It's okay to have a difference of opinion with someone regarding our current situation, but don't loose a friend over your differences.
I don't mean to cause any flame or whatnot, but you did mention Republicans "rubbing it in". I honestly haven't really seen any of this happening on the forums. In fact all I've really seen is threads made to bash either candidate rather than actually instigate civil discussion.
To be fair then, the majority of players on the server are children, so don't label them as 'bragging' Trump voters.
You don't say? I thought it was very clear that I was referring to the younger children on the server, but apparently not so.
You're kind of just proving his point. This isn't worth arguing about. Just because we can't vote yet doesn't mean we can't have ideologies or opinions. And no, it wasn't very clear, you could have indicated that you were referring to younger children.
It should have been obvious. Personally I think that is was a low-blow that the orginal counter agrument was made in the first place. It shows how people really are looking for any faults that don't exist. Whatever, the agrument was made, so I won't complain any more. His point was that I was among the children whom I was referring to on the server, and since I heard it from you that the server is where all this 'bragging' is coming from, and my point was that the people in question that are bragging in the first place were young children, which perhaps have parents that support Trump.
This is a very very well-written thread, Now for me to put what i have to say in the thread. In America, We are all very fearful of what is possibly to come, I can understand those feelings. We all are fearful of Change, its in our genetic code as human beings. This Election year has been a rough one indeed, Both candidates both had there Valid points, And they both had there Negative effects too. It's been like that for every election year. Tensions get high and the public gets frightened, I personally believe however that we should not act like this. Surely you might call me out or disagree with me, But look around you. America is still standing, We are still a Nation, and we have Authority backing us up still if things get ugly. I understand all of us here on the Forums, and in real life are all very very worried, But dont let your Worries condemn you, In fact, Your worries should actually help all of us become stronger, To Set things right. We are still all United states Citizens, no, Were all Human beings. And we have the power to all stand up and make sure that we can strive for a better future for all of us. Dont let opposing viewpoints, Race, Ethnicity, Gender, or Religion tear us apart, We are All humans. Dont let the sadness and despair of 2016 get to you, In these times of Fear, Be the hope and change you wish to see in the world, Be the Light in the dark for somebody else. We are still a Nation, And we shall make it what our Founding fathers envisioned it to be, a Land of the Free, and the Home of the brave. Like the Old saying goes Make Love, Not War.
