Minecraft Minecon 2016 Thoughts and Experiences

Hey guys, It's me John. :) You all here probably knew that i had a chance to go to Minecon this year, and now that im back home and everything, I think it's time for me to share my thoughts and experiences i had.

So first of all for the people who want a much shorter Explanation, Minecon was an absolute Blast. This was my First convention and i believe it will be in my memories for a long time.

Now for the lengthy talk.

There was so much going on at this convention it was insane, So many people from many different places in the world gathered here to celebrate our Beloved game. I've met all kinds of friendly people and made some new friends, but we will get into that Later.

Now for Photos!


This right here was the Entrance to Minecon, Inside was where all the Booths and stuff were, they Had Life-sized Minecraft builds and so much more.


This here was the Main stage. This room was Gigantic and the amount of people that were in here was insane. Not only that, But this place was Cold as hell too. I dont know what kind of A/C this place has, but during the whole opening ceremony i was shivering my ass off waiting for this thing to be over, Plus i was Starving as i have been up since 4am getting ready. xD

Now for the Exhibit hall! This place had everything, They had Life-sized Minecraft builds, like Trees, Caves, A house and many more.

Right here was a photo I took at one of the booths. That right there is a Scale accurate Grass block. Very cool.

This right here was the Giant banner they had at the entrance, Wanted to get a good photo for my Family.


And yes, this is the photo everyone here has been wanting to see, My homemade Minecon cape. After about a few months of design and construction it was finally done. Soooo many people there complemented me on the cape, Both attendees and Youtubers alike. And believe it or not, this cape was actually based off a design i found on the Minecraft forums and I actually ran into the guy who was friends with the one who made the design, Really cool.

and speaking of youtubers, Oh boy there was Plenty of them. So many great people i've wanted to come Face to face with for a long time.

First and Foremost, I got a chance to meet one of my Favorite youtubers, Jess A.K.A Aphmau. c:

This i believe was the Highlight of my Experience at Minecon, She is the Nicest girl i have ever met, We both share the same interests and had a very fun talk. If you guys do ever get a chance to meet her You should do so, you will not regret it.

I also got a Chance to meet a Familiar face of the ItsJerryandHarry server, @MisfittedCow !
Really nice that we got a chance to hang out at this convention.


Not only that, But i also got to meet Grian from old IJAH. I unfortunately didnt have time to chat with him though. :P

Im not going to deny it, but yes, there were.

I mean Cringy isnt the nicest way to put it, but the people at Minecon were the most awkward bunch ive ever been around, Not only that, but there was a lot of Rude people too. However the good really outweighs the bad.

My friend, I am very happy you had fun at Minecon, (and it seems like you have taken my advice also :) ), as you have been very hyped about this for a very long time, and I remember all the concerns you had about it.
To see you in this position after the event was one of the best outcomes I have imagined, and rightfully so, because you obviously had enjoyed Minecon.

Most of us here on the forum wish that we all could go to Minecon, I have said it before, and I will say it again, you are very forntunate to had the chance to attend such an event and I am happy that you were able to enjoy it through its entirety.
As your friend, I have supported you throughout the months to encourage you to have no fear while attenting this event, and as I previously mentioned, I am delighted to see that you have enjoyed this event, and nothing bad happened to you :D.

 

aww man I wished I could have been there as I would gladly meet you if I was able too, though I hope you loved being there and I'll try to come in 2017 and maybe we will be able to meet and have a chat John!

That cape you had though, very close to the actual design. Also, congrats on meeting Aphmau! :)

Yep he is a youtuber.

 

Yes he is a youtuber but before he was big on youtube he was the Builder for J&H. He made all the old spawns but he left awhile ago...

 

Alright, So now for a bit of an Update. At Minecon, there was Soooo much to do you would not believe, they had little booths where you can try out the Different products and such that they were offering. One was the Mattel booth where they had many of the Upcoming Minecraft toys with the Gimmicks and such, they had things like a Villager that could trade, they had a Burning Zombie and many more. They also had a booth of Upcoming mini-figures, They gave all the attendees a first hand experience on what was to come out of Minecraft. :)

One of the biggest things i tried out was the Minecraft Gear VR edition, Not many people really get the chance to play this version and i was really glad i did. I tell you, the Blocks in game are much bigger than they look on a PC screen. Also, the Mobs are Fright-inducing. o_o Have you seen how big the spiders are in the game? or the Endermen? Its terrifying.

Not only that, but i went to Downtown disney the day before and stopped by the Lego store they had, They had loads of Awesome stuff from there.

This right here was a Lego Minecraft set known as the Village, its a pretty intricate design for a Lego set, its got the Blacksmith shop, the Butcher's house and the Librarians house i believe, But its also got a new structure which i think is a trading post. It all looks real nice.


This right here was a Reissue of a Popular Lego set of the Death star. This thing is very very cool as it has all the Familiar sets from the Movie, Such as the Trash compactor, the Prison cell that held Princess Leia, The Emperor's throne and many more. and on the Right is the Disney Castle made out of Lego, It also serves as a Playset as it has many of the familiar characters.

Also at Minecon, Unfortunately i didnt get the chance to go, I saw plenty of kickass costumes while i was there, I remember seeing a whole crew dressed up as the Main characters from MC story mode, Someone was a Working Magma cube that opened like in the game. (I believe she Won first place in the Costume competition.) There was a Really awesome Iron golem costume, and there was plenty of Girls i saw dressed up as Alex.
If you watched the Costume contest you would probably know what im talking about.

Now its time for me to show you what i got c:

So what i got while i was there is the following, First of all, I got myself one of those Foam swords, except they are built differently than the Jinx swords, this one has a 3d look to it, the Hilt is plastic while the Blade is Foam. The Other thing i got was a Mattel Minecraft custom figure, They had this booth where you could buy one of these and get your skin printed out, Very very cool. I also got a few Lego Minecraft sets as well, I got one called the Jungle treehouse, and i also got a Special Minifigure pack with Custom MC skins. Ill show them in High quality maybe later on. The last thing i got was a Set of Minecraft minifigures with each one wearing a cape from each Minecon. Very cool


Now for the bad... I know it sounds a bit weird to talk about an Event that is mostly held in a good light, But there are a few things that i feel need to be Addressed. Minecon was a Very fun experience, But i will Admit, the people there are the most socially awkward bunch ive ever been around. I believe its for the fact that were all used to talking to each other behind a Computer monitor than Face to face. People acted very shy and such, But also there was a lot of rude people there too, Im not going to Mention what they said but you might already know.

At times while i was there i would wonder "Where the hell are these kids parents?" Most of the kids there Went apeshit everytime the Cameras would be rolling, Trying to get up in the cameraman's face showing Photos of Harambe and other things on there phones. I truly felt sorry for most of the staff that have to deal with this sort of shit. Before, I thought people called Minecon cringe-worthy because they hated kids or something like that, but now that i've gone there and experienced these things first hand, I can see why people think that, These kids act like the most Immature and Cynical people ever. I remember seeing that there was some kids from the Make a wish foundation that were there and knowing these kids were being Rude on live camera just saddens me.

One of the things i saw was this guy Who interrupted the Closing ceremony by Taking the Microphone away from Aureylian and saying shit about Keemstar and Harambe. I also remember that he got Booed off the stage and probably got kicked out. But hey that's what you get for pulling a dick move. :p

If i had the chance to talk to the ones who regulate Minecon, My suggestion is to Heighten the amount of Security in case people try to pull these Dumbass stunts and Ruin the experience for Everyone else. One would be to not allow dumb questions at Panels, and Set some rules for the Convention so that These type of things will not occur.



Overall, I had a hell of a Time at Minecon, It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I probably wont be able to make it to next year's Minecon but I've had a lot of fun and I will cherish this memory for years to come. :)

Anyway, I'm really glad you had a great time and met awesome people! Plus you bought some pretty awesome stuff.

 

I never got to make it there mostly because I went to Iowa, Glad you had a fun time at mine con Johny Poo, wish I could see ya there bro
