Is this rare?

Hey i was playing pokemon gold and just started a new game bec i finished pokemon emerald so i wanted to play pokemon gold and i see a shiny pidgey. Is it rare?

 

Yes it is as rare (I don't have the exact numbers) are rare in a general sense as I've spent over 100+ hours looking for a shiny on many pokemon games though I only got one.

There is a 1 in 4096 chance of encountering a shiny!
Hell, they changed the chance from 1 in 4096 to 1 in 8912 in Pokemon X and Y!

 

If you didn't catch it then you will trigger many pokemon collectors. Not me though, I don't care much for shinies.
