I decided to make a short story because I love writing and I'm bored. Here it is: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Switch Deep in the forest two men sat at a campfire, staring deep into the fire wondering what they had gotten themselves into. Rodney was muscular from head to toe, and had hauled most of their equipment here in his truck. Max was not terribly strong, but was skittish. He was a good friend of Rodney's, but had reluctantly agreed to come here. They had one tent set up for the both of them, but Rodney takes up most of the tent. Their truck was parked on a path that was miles away from a cabin in which they called a rest stop. A few men lived there, but most just passed by. Rodney and Max were hunting for bigfoot. In their truck was a 16 pack of water bottles, extra beef jerky encased in four different packets, and extra cartridges of ammo. In each tent was 6 shotgun ammo, one pack of beef jerky, a water bottle, and a rifle along with a thin blanket to sleep on top of. As they stared into the campfire, sitting on the logs, Rodney asked if Max was ready. Of course he wasn't, but Rodney was, and Max was along for the ride. They got each shoutgun, loaded with one bullet each, and carried the extra six ammo inside their pockets. For half an hour they walked along the trail at midnight. After awhile, they spotted a mysterious cave. This cave was carved into a small hill, hidden beneath the leaves of sturdy oaks and pines. Rodney, going first, shoved away some leaves and vines away from the entrance, and grinned at Max. Max did not grin back, as he was scared and did believe in bigfoot. They held no camera; they intended to kill the creature and sell it. The cave had dirt toward the entrance, but the rest seemed to be carved out of pure stone. There were stalagmites and stalactites toward the sides of the cave, but there seemed to be a path running through. Soon, though, Rodney and Max discovered the cave to be slowly sloping downward. At one point, they found a heavy drop with loose pebbles and water dripping down from the sides. Max was slowly backing away, but Rodney easily heard him and convinced him to go on. Rodney went first, slowly climbing down and getting to the bottom quickly. Max fell down toward the bottom, but Rodney caught him and put him down. Rodney, still pushing, discovered the cave led for a long time and it seemed to get colder. Eventually there was a dead end, and no other ways to go. Except Rodney was determined, and saw that a pile of loose rocks on the wall meant a hidden passage. He pried his way through, and sure enough there was another cave entrance. He was about to go in when Max offered to stay at the intersection. Rodney looked at him carefully, but accepted. He alone continued into the cave to find another dead end, but something else. It looked to be a giant lever or switch, build into the ground and carved out of stone. Rodney put down his rifle and used all of his strength to push down the switch, determined to find and kill bigfoot. But nothing happened. He tried lifting it back up, but nothing happened. This was when Rodney heard a gunshot, and a cut off scream. He immediately went into action, picking up his rifle and getting ready to strike. It had to be bigfoot! He knew the sightings around the area were true. But as soon as Rodney got out into the intersection, he saw Max, who was on the ground being gored to death by a Grizzly. Caves were bears homes, and Grizzly Bears were the toughest animals around- tougher than bigfoot. The bear immediately spotted him, and Rodney froze for a moment, and then ran back to into where the switch was. He knew he was being pursued by the bear, but his strength combined with his rifle couldn't stop a bear that size. Maybe not even bigfoot. As Rodney reached the dead end with the switch, he fired off a shot toward the entrance, but it would do no use. The bear came charging in. Rodney desperately tried with all his strength to flick the large switch, hoping he could be saved, but the switch had unknown capabilities and would not save him from his hubris.
