A gunman killed at least 50 people and injured 53 others in a crowded gay nightclub in Florida early on Sunday before police shot him dead in what U.S. authorities described as a “terrorism incident.”

A police officer working as a security guard inside the Pulse club exchanged fire with the suspect at about 2 a.m., police officials said.

A hostage situation quickly developed, and three hours later a squad of officers entered the club and shot dead the gunman. It was unclear when the gunman shot the victims.

“Do we consider this an act of terrorism? Absolutely, we are investigating this from all parties’ perspective as an act of terrorism,” said Danny Banks, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Danny Banks. (Reuters)

This isn’t just another shooting.

This is now officially, with over 50 casualties, the worst mass shooting in United States history. And the fact that it took place at a gay club was not merely coincidence. This was not just another act of senseless violence in America.This was a hate crime.

A man walked into a safe space for the LGBT community with an assault rifle and lined them up and slaughtered them.

Don’t do what the media is inevitably going to do. Don’t erase where this happened and who this happened to.

When you make your statements for/against gun control, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the gunman’s reported religious beliefs, remember this was a hate crime. When your politicians make empty promises about changing the way things are, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the media’s coverage of this, remind everyone this was hate crime.

Do not gloss over the identities of the victims. They were killed for them. This was a hate crime.
the media is trying to downplay the fact that it was a gay bar, but it was one of the most well-known in orlando and if a shooter wanted to specifically target LGBT people, this is where he would have gone.

the shooter could have gone to any other club. he chose pulse for a reason.
the shooter locked himself in pulse and police had to break into the club with a tank and controlled explosions. this was a gay club. this was a gay club. say what you want about gay clubs (it is not the appropriate time to say what you want) but they are for many, many people a place for safety, a place where it is all right to be open and free and good with yourself and this monster walked in to this club with an assault rifle because it gave that feeling of safety to specifically lgbt people.

this is what every family values candidate wants. this is what every person signing off on a bathroom bill wants. this is what every person who won’t let their kid join the GSA, or stands on the corner with a hate sign at pride, or calls for annie on my mind to be removed from the school library - this is what they want. they’re being coy about it, say it’s about families, about safety, but this is what they want. it’s not that they don’t want us to be happy - they don’t want us to be safe. they want us to be terrorized, always. they want us dead. that’s all they want. they want our deaths and the deaths of people who help us and the deaths in the cradle of anyone who might grow up to be us. and they have the tools to do it, with their trappings of power and their dishonest reading of the second amendment.
Things to keep in mind
- this is proof that the lgbtqia+ community is not safe (yeah, not even in america, shocker)
- we have a long ways to go before we are ever truly given justice and equality.

i thought i was done being afraid for myself, but i was kidding myself. there is no end to the fear, not if you are lgbt. there is no end in sight.

So after all the bad stuff that's happening, please give love today. tell someone what they mean to you, if you like someone's profile picture or shirt or whatever compliment them, do something little for someone. it could mean to world to them. make someone smile. send someone a nice message, draw someone something!

Please keep the victims and families in your thoughts. This crime was horrendous.

I agree with everything else you say, but it seems here you're saying that every family values candidate, every person signing on that bill, etc want you all dead.

The suspect pledged allegiance with ISIS via phone, when he called 911 during the attack... so yes, terrorism indeed

It's so horrific that there has been so much violence in the past two days for literally no reason whatsoever. Gun violence is out of control im literally gonna scream at the top of my lungs.
I never ever want to hear from another living soul that gay people are given an advantage or that we are already equal because clearly that is not the case.
I never want to hear ever again that guns don't kill people, it's the people who weild them. the SOLE purpose of guns is to inflict harm and death unto those who are on the other end.
It's so easy to get a gun in America It's pathetic, I've had enough of hearing about innocent people or children lgbt or not being murdered because some gutter brained sewer rat decided he hated a person or group of people so he shoots up a school or club because he had the means of doing so. Any person can wake up one day and decide they want to kill someone and get a gun, and apparently even safe spaces aren't safe.
Hate crimes need to stop.

What needs to change is gun control and I'm sick of nothing happening to change it.
I realize me spewing this out on a social media website is affecting much either but I'm just hoping to show some people that reform needs to happen if we ever wish to be safe and equal and I hope some of you start to see that now.

America is so backwards, really. So many in our society are so concerned with being a 1950's kool-aid drinker that they close their eyes to today and today's complicated lifestyles, questions, and answers. They think that going "back to our roots" and to the "good ol' days" that never existed is a viable way to live. And, to anyone who thinks this way, wake the fuck up. Change will happen and change is going to happen, you honestly look like a complete wuss trying to avoid and ignore it.

Not only that, but you have the same number of people who think that squandering our resources and helping every single little sob story is a way to solve problems. Now, don't get me wrong, we NEED to listen to each other, that's the only way we get things done; but, sometimes it's better to provide no support than some. I'm looking at you Tumblr imbeciles that fucking talk about saving like, a toe nail or whatever. There's no need. But, I digress. Honestly, these people are on the right track of just not ignoring problems, but they give too many fucks about too many things, and they're just going to strangle themselves out of resources. And, to anyone who thinks like this, please, choose your battles. There's a difference between making a noise about sonething worth screaming about, and screeching about spilled milk.

Overall, this is a tragedy, and we need to all need to be wise about our country's decisions. Please, just use some common sense. Such as "Oh, I wonder what happens if I make gun marketing easier", or "I wonder how our government will react if corporations pay them millions". It's not hard.

I try to stay away from these topics on here, but I will say that condolences go out to the victims families. I honestly can't imagine what they're going through.

 

The shooter wouldn't have been able to kill any people if there were better gun laws and more restrictions : )

If there were more open carry laws then people could defend themselves
Make gun laws, people are still going to have guns. People are still going to defy the law. You cant control who has a gun out of 3 billion people, its impossible.

 

In that same aspect that you can't stop people from having guns, you can't exactly force people to carry guns, especially out of fear. The best thing to do is to not implement laws which dont stop people from carrying guns, but instead implement background checks and close loopholes, such as selling guns online.

Honestly, if people weren't so caught up with themselves and decided to stop and think "Huh, maybe if they're not like me in race, religion, orientation, etc. than maybe they're not bad at all." In reality, if they were like the people who have the audacity to discriminate the free beings in "the land of the free", than our country would be nothing but crime and hate, all thanks to tunnel vision. ("They" referring to the people who are hated upon.)
It's all bullshit how if it doesn't go with someone's religion, it's wrong. Regardless of what defies us, we're all human inside and out.

Guns aren't meant for pure offense, and they do a lot of good if they're in the right hands. What about self-defense in the situation a man or woman is being mugged, raped, threatened at gunpoint, etc. In those issues, it's a good thing to have one. It'd be a bad thing to carry a gun IF this crooked country wasnt encumbered with criminals.
