What would you do, if you saw an elderly person cry?

So, this might be the most random topic. I thought of making a thread like this, when I saw @ImJustAGirl comment in a thread similar to this a story when her teacher cried in class. Thanks for that. ;D

But when it comes to seeing an elderly person cry, I honestly don't know what to do in that moment, even though I'm a guy. I'm a very emotional person myself.

Have you even encountered an elderly person cry? Have you done something about it? If so, what?
If you would encounter an elderly person cry, what would you do in that moment?

I'll give you an example of what happened not too long ago. It was similar to @ImJustAGirl's situation, but the teacher didn't cry, because she was heartbroken.

In class, we had to read a story. And let me just remind you, that in the class was the teacher who I loved working with at different projects throughout the school year. She's my favourite teacher so far.
Anyway, the story was about the person who wrote the story. The writer talked about his mother, that was in bad condition and she eventually died. Our teacher was reading that, by the way. When she came over to that chapter, in the middle of it, it was so touching, that she started bursting out crying. We were all just staring at her, all silent. The class was literally silent. We gave her some time for her to calm down, so we could continue the class.

Again, I'd like to thank @ImJustAGirl for 'giving' me an idea to create a thread something like this. You can view her comment here.

    Enjoy the weekend! :D

What's the difference between an elderly person crying and a regular person crying? (sounds like the beginning of a joke but it's a legitimate question)

I'd do what I would for anyone, if it was someone I knew I would use what I knew to cheer them up, if it was a random stranger I would politely show them some memes until they die from dankness overload.

I mean, I rarely see an elderly perosn cry in person and that kind of hits me inside. But when I see a young person (<18) cry, it doesn't hit me inside that much, since I know, that youngsters cry a lot. I feel like elderly people can control their feelings, but sometimes they lose it and cry. I've experienced a handful of events when I saw an elderly person cry.

I would try my best to help them in any way, especially if it's a teacher. Teachers are the reason I can even say half of what I'm typing right now.

No hate, but this was the worst idea for a thread ever. Like honestly, you couldn't come up with anything else?

Actually I think you need to do some digging. Go to the off topic/spam section and you'll see threads that are way worse than this one. This thread isn't close to stupid.

If you have a better idea for a thread, then do it.
