Scenario: The planet has been seperated into two supercountries. Don't ask how or why; that's not important right now. What's important is that you have to choose between the two to live in for the rest of your life. Here is an overview of both of them: Society A- You live in a country with no crime whatsoever. You'll never have to worry about being attacked or robbed, because if somebody ever attempted to threaten you, they would almost immediately be arrested. The streets are so clean, sterile even, that you could eat off of the ground. People are healthy and the air is clean. You can sleep soundly at night knowing no other citizen will ever harm you. BUT Your every action is being closely monitored by the government, and not just Internet connections and phone calls. You're constantly being surveilled by cameras set up in nearly every nook and cranny. Every time you speak, you will be recorded, no matter how quietly you whisper. Every night you sleep, you're being recorded. Every time you speak with your friends or co-workers, you're being watched. Every time you scratch your rear discretely, somebody caught it on tape. Maybe this isn't a big deal for you; you have nothing to hide. But if you're recorded doing something considered suspicious or violent, you will be arrested almost instantly. Your rights are restricted as well. You can't smoke cigarettes as they pollute the air and cause nothing but harm towards others, and "junk food" such as chips and cookies are outlawed because they have little to no nutritional value. That's Society A. Maybe it appeals to you, or maybe it repulses you. Before you decide, this is Society B. Society B- You have total freedom to do anything you want. The only law is that you may not overthrow the barely existant government (that consists of one person, who only has the title so Society B is considered a country). You can take whatever you want, ingest any substance or food you want, you can even commit murder and nobody will call you out on it. Money does not exist in this country. BUT You put yourself at risk of terrible danger. Anybody can break into your room at night, and they can take anything they want from you, including your life if they decide to. The streets are teeming with what we consider crime, anything bad could happen to you at any moment. You're free to fight back against your aggressors, of course, but what if you find yourself face-to-face with someone much stronger than you? Now you need to choose. Would you rather live in a country of total security, or of total freedom? It's up to you.
I'd live in Country B, make a rocket, gather up all sane, smart and respectable people and build a new society on the moon to monitor the collapse of the Earth, especially when Country B looses all resources and attacks Country A for more. Oh that would be fun.
Society B Sounds survival. I Love survival, So society B c: Also I can just build a secret hideout within another secret hideout Fix my self up so I can be ready for anyone then I can be fine.
I would have to choose Society B. Even though it's anarchism, I would instead live in a forest or high mountain and live like that. Anything is better than living in a communist superpower China wants to be.
I'd take Society B, because I can round up a bunch of useful people and build a separate society somewhere else. You said Society A would be extremely sterile, so a simple cold could have the potential to kill you, I wouldn't like that.
Is running away from the society you chose actually an option? I would want to live in neither society A nor society B, but if I had to choose and had the option to escape, the obvious choice would be society B because you can just grab some survival essentials and run to the wilderness. After all, you're not being recorded - no one will know. But if we're playing fair (which means you actually need to live in the society you chose, without being able to escape), I would choose society A. Although you have no privacy whatsoever and you are forced to follow extreme rules, you can still live. Society B is somewhat similar to the world under Biff Tannen's control after the time paradox in Back to the Future II, where life is an absolute nightmare.
I don't know 'bout y'all, but I'd choose society A, where I am guaranteed to be safe. Sure, the laws are stricter, but I feel like I can deal with 'em.
Society A :3 Nothing to hide, I'm pretty sure I'll get used to everything, since all of that happens in my house, except instead of video taping and recording, its my dad watching me o-o
society a. thinking about a world where murder is legal and no punishment scares the shit out of me. i'd rather be safe and deal with the laws rather than always watching my back, hoping that i won't die.
Society A: Frankly Government surveillance isn't new, so this is simply an extension on that. The cigarettes and fast food ban I can deal with since I live a relatively healthy lifestyle. No crime would be nice as well.
I'd be the first dead in either society. A sounds better. I don't threaten to ki- oh, wait, I have math (@_ItsHappy ) I don't do any bad stuff at home, and I could use less weight. B, however, many a people hate me. I know. I'll be dead in 5 min.
I am going to say A because I feel like I would be the first dead in Society B (I AM SMALL, 4'9 OKAY) Or I would do what @MappyTurtle did.
