Hello everybody! If you do not know, my name is Smg. Today I will be discussing a topic, that may seem a bit bland to some, but can be very serious. I am going to be discussing internet safety/what not to post/what to post. You are most likely wondering: "Smg, why do we need you to tell us about this stuff, when we already get these talks all the time Irl?" Unlike my other threads, this answer is not that simple. First, let's talk about internet safety. Internet safety is the safety of people who like to be online. Preferably places where they talk to real/alive people. People they most likely do not know out of the internet. Internet safety (As I said earlier) is the ability of thus person staying safe online. Here's some what not to do's on the internet: -Show your face -State your full name -State your address -Do wacky things you wouldn't do In real life -CyberBully Now, if you have followed these types of threads made by me before, you may think of a certain reason I put "Show your face" at the top of that list. I don't want to get full into this segment, as I have already stated my feelings about the topic. I myself, am not a fan of the threads that require you to show your face to the community. I see it as useless, and harmful. Anyone can see what you post online. Nothing you post is safe. Here's some what you can do's on the internet: -State your first name (Without Last Name. More people then you know have the same first name as you). -Have fun with your friends (That you trust) -Think about what you post -Talk/Interact with other people *Only if you know not to release any personal information (Most of the cases, you do not know them personally) The main reason I posted this thread, was because every day I see people posting more information about themselves on the internet. And yes, I do see that here as well. I absolutely love this community, and love all the members of it. All I want is for people to be careful. Think about what they post. Know that if they delete anything, it isn't truly gone. Please take in consideration that there are ways to get a hold of deleted information. Nothing you delete is truly gone forever. Just, please listen. I said this multiple times, but I will say it again. Think before you post. If you have read this all throughout, I am deeply thankful. I just felt like people have been ignoring the whole process of Internet Safety lately, but I may be wrong. Who knows? Have a fantastic day IJAH community. :D
Well said. And to everybody who posted on the "Pic of yourself" thread thus far: Anybody can see that. Not just your friends. And it'll show up on Google too. Any old creep can look up your name and see that pic of you in a swimsuit. Think about that.
Should of said this earlier, but thanks for posting this reply. I really do hope if people see this, they will remember this stuff, and think about what they post.
The whole "post yourself" thing is a prime example. And for those who want to post your face, here's a few things on what NOT to have in the photo: Any Monuments. Even if you don't plan on going back, it's not good to post yourself with a Monument, because then we know exactly where you are. Revealing Clothing. As Star said, creeps can look at you easily. And, although it is like, a 99.9% chance that you're not going to get targetted, it's dependant on you posting yourself. As long as you avoid those 2 things, you should be relatively fine. Just stick with caution, and thinnk about the effects in every post. The best thing that I've seen, though, is making your own online Persona. This can be a different person, and you can post a picture of yourself with different clothing and different hairstyles(Filthy Frank is an amazing example). This keeps your real identity a secret, while still giving you the luxury and satisfaction that is posting your picture online.
Knew it, seen it, thought it, and said it before. Glad somebody else other than me had to say it to all of us. I already knew this information, and it's refreshing to see these threads being posted here. Tis' as real thing.
This is actually kinda of scary for me because we are doing lessons about this kind of stuff i.e (Sexting, Sharing Photo's Online) I have known this information since primary school but i am so glad that somebody mentioned it.
Sadly, you can't stop the cyberbullying. People think they can get away with doing it just because they are behind a computer..
Cyberbully cannot be stopped. We made this like a virus but we cannot stop it since we made it like a hobby. The only thing bad posting yourself is if you have enemies that wants to have revenge or photo of you having much skin. We can just rather avoid than to stop it because people doing it will do it to you if you try to stop it in Internet. Only thing best to do is to remind each other about it and banned people who do this in the forums and server.
I agree with every stated, and I believe this was very informative for the majority. But ultimately keeping your identity unknown is up to you. You can post as many of these as you want but you still can't stop it, soon this thread will be forgotten and we will go in reverse again and get into bad habits again. This is the internet, you can find all of our little posts of information and pictures of us very easily. For instance, you type up my name "BFrizz31" and you can access all of my posts and photos relating to the forums and even my LittleBigPlanet photos. It's insane how easy these things are to find, we are in one minute area of the internet and you can find this place by seeing my name around on PlayStation or Minecraft.
I do know that cyber bullying is very hard to stop, but nothing is impossible. If people think about what they post, then this habit can be stopped. But, I do agree with you that it is very hard to get rid of. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :) Yes, I do know this thread will most likely be forgotten. I said this in the main writing a bunch of times, but, I made this mainly to warn the community of what can happen with these types of things. The people reading this don't have to listen to me. I'm no one to control what they do. I just wanted to try to help. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
I completely agree with the showing yourself on the internet. People will know who your are, and anyone can see your face on a random search result. This is why I will never reveal my face.
Yeah, the funny thing is, when I was younger, (12-13ish) I looked up some of my friends to see what comes up. I was google images, and saw tons of pictures of them. Shows that anything you post can be viewed.
I used to do the same thing a few years back. But the thing is, even the stuff you post on your own private social media, such as Facebook, can show up.
