Alright, if you don't know, I am Smg.
I'm going to try to make this thread short as best as I can.
I was browsing through threads on the forums, and I saw the very popular "Post a picture of yourself" thread.
I honestly hate threads like these. I don't know why. Maybe because of the like farming. Maybe because of the "fake" love. I do know one thing. That thread has completely lost it's purpose. Here is why I think so.

There's really only a couple reasons why I think this way.
People these days use that thread as a like farm. If you don't know what that is, "farming" or "farm" is used by the people of today to describe things/people who continually do the same thing, to get something warm and welcoming in return. This is what that thread has become. I see people making "funny" posts all the time, to just gain likes. And these people look crazy as hell by my perspective, when they do these things. I don't even have to know the person that created this thread well, to know that he didn't want it to become something like that.

People tend to "overuse" this thread, similar to what I said earlier. Whenever I even look at this thread, people post tons of pictures of themselves, with most of them having an semi/real inappropriate comment added to it. All I see these days are "will you date me" "you're hot as hell" "omg I'm a loner so like my post". Alright, that last one wasn't really a real comment, but you get the point. This thread is basically social media on a forums.

What I am about to suggest, may be controversial, but I suggest this thread be locked. People are using this thread as a like farm/to reveal themselves. To even act crazy. Like a pervert. Yes. A PERVERT. This thread has been long due for a lock. Most people who post pictures in this thread know they will get a ton of likes, and some "perverted" comments with it. This needs to stop.

And Yes, I do know of the argument, that this thread stops the huge amount of threads that say "post a pic of yourself" spamming the 'Real Life' section of the forums. And that is true. It is very true. But I would rather have spam threads of the same purpose, then a 'like' hungry community making perverted jokes at random pictures on a simple thread to just gain "popularity".

I am sorry if I offended anyone in any way. Please state your opinions on my thoughts/beliefs. Although a ton of you may hate on sight, please be brutally honest. Lies get people nowhere. Thank you for Reading.

 

I honestly see no harm with this thread. Sure some people get a bit off topic from time to time but its not like insulting or anything like that. The whole thread is pretty much just good/positive vibes and encouragement in my opinion.

No, and no. People post pictures of themselves for fun and because they want to, not because they want to be popular/get a gf/bf.

There is also no harm in posting "pictures" of yourself to farm for likes, but you do make some pretty tough points. Most of the time, the "will you date me" stuff is like, in a friendly way, since internet dating is a danger... well... atleast for me, but it might not be for you (please note I did date on the internet, but people change, yknow? it's all puberty. I'd rather stick to getting my high school shit done rather than sit around and talk to girls.)

And what do you mean by semi/real innappropriate comments? I must be blind, because I never see that sort of stuff, all I see is people posting gifs that say "you're like, so pretty" or "lets make out", which, again, is obviously a joke.

And yes, I do understand that you said "Alright, that last one wasn't really a real comment", but honestly, I don't think fishing for likes because they are a loner won't work. Infact, they will even become more of a loner, jesus piss.

I don't think they should lock the thread, honestly, it saves tonnes of threads being made for a face reveal, why lock it when so many people care about it? You're just going up the roof and into the sky. Think outside a little, not too much.

I don't think you should describe a "post a picture of yourself" as perverted because people try to fish for likes because they post pictures for fun, or for shits and giggles (I don't know if I even contradicted myself there, but oh well, fuck it).

But then again, people are free to post pictures of themselves because they want to, not because they want to date. It's too... let's sort of say.. "personal" in my books.

I don't think you could offend anyone here, actually, I congratulate you for making this thread, as you made more points, they got stronger, so I greet you for that.

Over the duration of this thread's existence, I've had to resolve to gambling.
By gambling I mean deciding what & when I post.
I love to participate in threads.
Not saying I'm fond of how I look, but I try to participate in this thread a bit.
At the same time I am to consider the quick speculations and rumours that circulate about me.
Speculations include being an attention-seeker, wanting to gain popularity or likes, etc.
Therefore, I try to juggle both by posting a pic but not very often. Post-posting (hahaha), I only allow myself a few hours or days before I remove the picture. The reason why I remove those pictures is to decrease the risk of speculations by not allowing as many people see the picture or like the post.
Why am I saying this?
I just want to present my input and the fact that I am not one that supports posts that resemble like-farming.

In my opinion, when someone posts a picture every week or more, I consider something phishy going on...
Take a look at some of the people who have earned heaps of likes over just the last year and consider where you know they post a lot.

It baffles me why people care so much about this thread being a problem. Unless it's affecting the community in a negative way, it's not an issue. If you're brave enough to post a picture where it may be reposted, uploaded, shared, manipulated, etc. good for you. Likes don't even matter, so if that's their goal then that's just sad. Finding love on a forum for Minecraft is like ordering a salad from McDonalds and saying your healthy. It's possible, but I'm pretty sure people aren't going to love you from a picture spattered with 50 filters.

 

Yes, somehow sometimes I do take offense to jokes, but when I do, I always will feel salty when I post something like that. Like, I would have been pissed off before I posted that.

Words can be hard to explain actions, so I'll just stop trying to explain.

No, people are not using this thread as a farm. Of course, some do, but you'll realize that the people doing this will stop getting their likes pretty quickly. Another thing that I would like to mention is those kinds of long long long threads complaining about various issues (including this one). You are complaining about like farming, but isn't this thread just a like farm and trying to gain popularity via complaining for things that matter less? I'm sorry, but likes are just likes. It's not like it will matter in the future or anything. It's just a like.

No. We don't "overuse" this thread. We stay on topic, lol. I do agree that people arguing on this thread and making convos on it is kinda annoying, but those get usually deleted right away with a message from a staff member saying "Any further off-topic message will be deleted." so I do not see the big deal about this.

Okay. You could compare this to social media. Okay, I agree with you, this can be compared to social media. Although what's so cringy about comparing one single thread on J&H to social media? They are not hurting anyone, they are not breaking any rule, they are not being illegal, so what's the big deal?

As I've said before, IT IS NOT A LIKE FARM MACHINE!!! And basically what you're saying is that we should lock J&H most popular ever thread that has actually no harm in the community; thus creating a spam explosion?

We are losing a lot of liberty on these forums because of people complaining about things that doesn't matter. And this is not directed only to you, SMG; because you're an awesome member nonetheless and I don't have anything against you, but I think if we want to focus on issues, we should focus on more important issues like staff issues or community-related issues. Not just an innocent thread that has no actual harm.

And what I really meant by this thread was, I personally hate this type of stuff. I really hate social media. I don't know why, I've always had. Seeing that thread basically become 'social media', made me kinda pissed (sorry for language).

And to you calling this thread a like farm. What this is, is me stating my opinions. And to top it off, I PURPOSELY posted this in Random Spam! Doesn't seem like a like farm to me. Again thank you for being honest. Honesty is the best policy, ya know.

I did not intend to make this look like I don't want compliments on this thread/the forums anymore. I truly didn't want it to look that way. What I did mean by this was, the thread is called "Post a picture of yourself!", not "Make perverted jokes at complete strangers thread!" And with it bothering me, look at what I said upstairs "thoughts before this". The main reason I really posted this, was I had enough of all this. I'm a man, and I do admit some of my points may have been sketchy, but that was what I was feeling like at that time. I hope you don't hold a grudge against me for this..

This thread was just here to show my feelings about this topic.
I love this server so much, and I just want to do my best to make sure it stays amazing.
What I learned through this is I can't be watching out for these many people. It's just not possible ya know, well it isn't for me currently. I applaud you all for being honest. it is hard these days to do that. Thank you all for the responses. My thoughts on this topic have not changed however, but I will make sure I won't do another one of these threads, about this topic again.
