If you've ever seen Back To The Future, you might understand the hype behind all of this. Basically if you have no idea, the time machine in BTTF is a delorean, and they only sold 9,000 of these cars between 1981 and 1983 and have became quite rare. Now it is thought only about 6,500 exist and that is about to be changed.. Quite a few years after Deloreans were sold in 1995, this guy called Stephen Wynne started selling refurbished Deloreans in Texas although now his firm (still using the name DeLorean motors company, nothing new/different) is able to build new cars because the government made changes to the laws following small scale car manufacturers! Stephen Wynn said that Deloreans should be in production and being sold majorly by about 2017 :D Awful old delorean advert because why not: ...am I the only that would actually buy one of these and is quite hyped to see the motor company back? Yeah, probably.
Will they be getting a redesign, or just refurbishment? Part of me doesn't want one, bit I'm curious as to what he'll do to them.
While they are famous for their cameo in Back to the future, outside of that, they aren't very good cars tbh, so If this Stephen is actually re-designing them, it might be cool. but otherwise I'm not sure about this.
I wasn't too sure about this either, but after some searching I found this: the 2017 DeLorean will have a more powerful engine. A V6 engine will be put in the new replicas giving the car between 350 and 370 horsepower, which is much more than the original 130 horsepower engine, making the car much faster than it was in the 1980s. Other changes include larger wheels and tires, modern breaks and modern amenities like heated seats, GPS navigation and bluetooth phone connectivity. But the aesthetic of the exterior will be “virtually unchanged” according to DeLorean Vice President Source: http://www.slashfilm.com/cool-stuff-a-new-2017-delorean-will-be-manufactured/ Yeah, I wish more cars had gull wing doors today.. They aren't re-designing them, but it will have a better engine etc (read my response to mcc)
Yeah they're putting Chevrolet engines, and looking for V6s The Merc AMG has gullwing, but they dont work well on commuter cars
