I decided to dust off my sketchbook and do a proper sketch, since it's been quite a while since I've done one. I really wanted to do a side profile, so I did. How I did it: 0.7 mm lead mechanical pencil 11 x 14 in. sketchbook paper (medium surface) blending stumps (for shading) eraser took me about 15-20 mins to complete. I know it's not perfect, so I would really like your critiques/opinions/suggestions. Tell me what I did right and wrong with it!
Teach me the ways, senpai. Honestly, your work is phenomenal, I see potential in you for becoming the next Leonardo Da Vinci. I recommend, if you're one to do shading, to touch up on the areas that are supposed to be darker (Inside his shirt by his neck should have little to no light entering there unless it is an over-head light point-of-view). Aside from that, great job C:
Thought you said 'Looks like nice toast! c:' Ha ha. If it tastes good, then it is a nice toast. Anyway, that looks stunning. Your so good at drawing :D
Thanks, and I've had around 15 years of practice to get this "good" lol Thanks so much! I tried to shade as much as I could but I guess there were still some areas that could be darker. Thanks for the tip! Thanks nala :D Toast is very nice. Also thanks!! I don't understand why the title of the thread is bolded but I made it to sound dumb on purpose and thank you :)
The eyes are too big, you could make it a little bit small but its really up to you how you want it to look like other than that, everything looks perfect tbh Screw wooden pencil mechanical pencil ftw
Even with Manga, or Anime, it's important to keep everything in proportion. Look up human anatomical proportions. Implement them in your work and it will look cleaner. The area from the nose to mouth is too long, the eyes are disproportiate to the head, the ear lobe is too far down, and the head isn't shaped correctly. The way the body is postioned does not match the side profile. Turn your head 90 degrees like the drawing and see how much of the face you would see. The neck needs to be strained because of the angle. I'm not going to tell you that your work is amazing and fantastic. It is good however. The praise is nice, but it may lead you to do the same errors over and over because in the end it doesn't actually help you. For example, "Wow, amazing!" That doesn't really help you expand as an artist. These comments are important to give you motivation, but not for learning. Good job. I look forward to seeing your future work.
Someone has spoken the truth about art creative showcase in this community. On a serious note everything Nano said is spot on with the drawing you made. One of my pet peeves are people that never give constructive criticism and just go "Wow, you're really good!" because one, I Find that a pointless post and two, That does not help the artist improve. I spent to much time getting positive feedback in primary school, I have now ended up with the same old manga style I had 2 years ago with little improvement between then and now in high school. I know I have ranted a lot in this, but that is because it's been boiling over since when ever I got on this forums.
