Recorded A Fight, Against The Law?

Today is Monday? Okay, so on Friday afternoon, to lady's began a fight. That afternoon, I recorded 15 seconds of the video. I did not know that I would almost get suspended for what I did.

Going into detail, that bus ride home in the afternoon, the ladies began to fight on the bus. The first one talked to a boy, being inappropriate in front of others. The "bus patrol" came all the way from the front to the back to scream at him. The girl that was included in the fight, BEFORE the patrol came back, was telling the boy to stop. When the bus patrol finished talking to the boy, she turned around to me and the other girl, and screamed at us to be quiet. The other girl screamed that she is being a massive hypocrite, and this is when it went out of control. When we got OFF the bus, they began to talk. Then, they began to fight. The girl telling the other girl to hit her, she dare's it. The other girl was saying no, but she was holding up with the fight. I pulled my phone out and began to record what was happening. That was Friday. Today is Monday. The principal called me to her office, and addressed that the girl who was tell her to hit her will be suspended from the bus for a week.

This is what I got:
A suspension from the bus for a day, and 2 weeks without my bus patrol belt.

I also had a phone call home.

These are the GOOD things I helped do:
Got the fight recorded.

Was honest, and took full ownership of what I did.

Telling you guys about this.

Do you think these were consequences ok?

The girl in the fight also turned out to be my best friend. (She was the one telling the girl to hit her.)

She has been texting me lately, not to call her until Friday afternoon. Yes, Friday afternoon, the 18th of December.

I would love your opinions below, support would be nice as well.

What the principal told me, I found outrageous. The internet does it all the time, but the place I live, its suddenly against the law? What is this? Hell? (Sorry for my language). Although I have not had any other contact with the principal other than today, I am sure there will be more, and let me tell you why.

That day, there was a boy sitting in front of me. He clearly thought it was funny, but he started to poke me. I got to the point, where I got so mad at him, where I slapped him near the eye. The same bus patrol didn't scream at him, but rather him for his actions. (I thank her for that). But nobody can save me now, not even the boy. After me hearing the fact that the principal is going to retrieve the footage of the bus that day, I will probably be suspended or expelled from the school. Please pray for things to get better. I beg you on my soul.

you can't get expelled for slapping someone on the face, but if the teacher is that serious you could possibly get another suspension. the only way you'd be expelled is if you've been suspended multiple times.
unless you shared the video of the girls fighting on social media, or had no intention of using it for good purpose(showing to your friends, keeping for yourself) then I personally think the suspension is unfair
but im not sure if this is true or not but it might be possible for one of the girls to sue you for having that footage.
ive been suspended multiple times and ive figured it out the hard way to NOT lie to the teachers no matter how crucial it seems.
my best advice is to just be completely honest because it's easier to do that than keep having to remember a lie, and if found get in more trouble. good luck!

 

And yes, the principal addressed me about the "sue" part. I replied with a simple "But it was never in social media.". They didn't want me to delete it so I kind of sat there like o_O

 

they probably are glad you recorded it for evidence but the teachers should be kind enough to hide the fact that you recorded it if they're using it

 

Yeah, I mean, I can't tell if I did the good thing or the bad thing here. I recorded it, but they used my video to get the students in trouble.

 

I think you can sue the school for this............ since there adding a new "law" without being in the constitution cause americans have the freedom for public press and record at events like this.

 

Its just that I don't even know the laws in my county.

LOL this happened to me. 2 boys were fighting last year and I randomly recorded it and then I got sent to the principals office and he looked at the video to decide which student was getting suspended (in the fight).

He thanked me for recording it but he told me not to record ever again, sometimes good things can happen and
Things could go wrong when recording :p

he meant county.
