How do you pronounce "GIF"?

It's an on-going debate, which side are you on?

"Jif" as in "jiffy" or "Gif" as in "Gift"?

i'm pretty sure i say it as "jif" since that's the way it was originally meant to be pronounced.

 

I say "Gi (pronounced as guy) fe (phh) = gyphe

 

Actually, GIF stands for Graphical Interchange Format

and Graphical is pronounced with a hard G rather than a soft one, so therefore it should be pronounced like Gif not Jif.

I've always pronounced it like "Gift" without the "T". Not "Jif" because clearly that's already the name of a peanut butter brand.

honestly i prefer jif myself just cause i think some guy said that was the official way.

 

I honestly say it like the peanut butter brand because I like peanut butter. That and I'm someone who wants to follow the person who created the term GIF. Therefore, I say it like "jif."
I remember that even Gravity Falls debated this when they had the character Giffany in it.

 

This is correct. The creator of the GIF said himself that it is pronounced that way. It is also proper English because g is followed with vowel i, so anyone who pronounces it with "guh" has some things to learn.

Freedom of speech dictates that you can say it that way; however, there is no debate here because the actual correct pronounciation is "Jif," end of story.

 

This is a debate on how you pronounce gif, not what it means. Even the creator of the original *GIF* said it's pronounced like that. And with a lot of accents, Graphical has a soft g.

Anyways, if that's how you're pronouncing it, I'm not going to judge you on that.
