So since Veteran's day is almost here, i decided to make a thread where we share stories of our family members and loved ones who have served to keep different countries safe in wars. Ill start first. My first story i have is the story of my Great grandfather Francis. He was a Soldier who was drafted into world war 2 at the time it started, he served in a US army squadron that was tasked to fight there way into germany during the Battle of the Bulge, One of the 2nd largest battles against germany, consisting of the allied forces of the USA, and the Soviet union. He and his fellow men were captured by nazi soldiers and sent to a nazi Prison camp. he was there for a couple weeks until the American soldiers came and liberated the prison camps. He survived luckily and was able to tell the story of his time in a Nazi concentration camp. After the war, He lived a pretty good life until sometime around the 1980s when he passed away. 2nd is my Grandfather, He still lives today at about 75 years old. He is also an Army vet who served in the Vietnam war, but not as a soldier, but a truck driver. He was stationed in Germany wt the time of the cold war tension. and he and the other forces were tasked to occupy the other european countires and keep the safe from the Soviet union. He would always haul Soldiers, supplies, Prisoners and many other things. At the end of the war, He came back to where i lived and met my grandmother. they both lived to see the Space race of the 1960s and were there in high school when the Moon landing happened. What are some of your stories? share them here, but lets keep it civil. :)
The father of my grandma helped stealing food tickets (tickets which you could get food with) for people who needed them in WW2. He got a cross (idk what its called in english xD) for that, which is a pretty high thing to get. I'm happy that he has done good things for the other people with risking his life, which I'm really proud of some how even when I'm writing this.
Hmm, thats quite interesting. i never heard about that. My Great Grandfather was awarded a purple heart for his service in the army, he was shot in the leg and he still lived.
My dad served in the Navy throughout the early 90s, and his dad was the captain of an attack boat in Vietnam in the late 60s.
