What is high school for you?

High School is fine for me. It's pretty much middle school for us, except you can make more decisions, and the building is larger.
I rarely ever get any homework, and if I do, it's most likely a project or something we didn't finish in class.
There isn't any bullying, and our school has a pretty good reputation. Great teachers, we learn stuff, etc.

High school has been the same for the last 4 years.
EZ and un stressful.

I'm just not looking forward to the VCE years. (Aka Year 11 & 12)

 

High school is alright. Nothing like High school musical and I'm sad about that.

The only class I really have to make an effort in is orchestra.

 

I just entered NUS (National University of Singapore) High School of Mathematics and Science, which is not really a high school though. Im in year 1 which is equivalent to America's 7th grade, but to be considered high schooler I have to wait 4 more years xD I just learn new things in the school. Different from primary school stufd, more interesting but I still hate eating Ununoctium

My school year will start 4th Jan but it is hard to believe Im just a normal seventh grader when u see me 1.71m tall with a mustache and weighing 64kg

 

Disagree with your math statement. Calculus is used widely in a variety of fields, from engineering to astrophysics. Also, multiple languages exist because of the diverse backgrounds and cultures on this planet, people from one side of the world didn't speak the same language as people on the other side spoke before the 1900s, because they were usually disconnected.

 

Is high school college? Or secondary school? XD

I fully and completely understand the importance of an education for the youth of the next generation, however the METHODS the board of education is using to educate us is simply not right. I will not blame the teachers because they don't have control over any of this, they are simply the vessels.
The board of education decides how and what we get taught, how long we study for, how difficult our courses are, etc.
The only thing the teachers have control over is how good of a teacher they are. They can't change what they teach, only HOW they teach.

I disagree with common teaching methods nowadays, because it assumes every kid learns and thinks the exact same way and therefore is capable of learning the curriculum.

School is meant for "in-the-box" thinkers, the type of people that aren't amazing at that much but aren't bad at that much either. Perfectly average. The quiet thinker, the neat worker. I have found that the students that match this description tend to be straight A students.

We all know that the majority of students are NOT like this at all. What about those who think out of the box, those with creative minds? Those that's abilities fluctuate greatly, they may do outstanding in an artistic course but fail in an academic course. The teachers will see this as laziness because these people are able to do well in one course, therefore they must be just as smart in another.

I see high school as nothing more than a hypocritical activity for students, I enjoy the social aspect and I do enjoy school in some ways. For example English is probably one of my best subjects and I want to enjoy it, but I cannot becasue my teacher makes it a boring course, she underestimates all the students in her class. I find math a lot more difficult, and I try my absolute hardest and come to every class and I have a tutor but the teacher thinks I'm lazy because he thinks he knows my mind's abilities. "You have great mathematical abilities, you just need to learn how to actually use them." This is what I was told about my own mind. This is the problem. I get up early every day for the same old routine, never really changing anything or learning anything or getting an inspiring spark in my mind.

School is supposed to inspire kids, to help them create a better future, to teach them the essentials they'll need later on, to teach them how the world works. This is pretty much the opposite of what most schools do nowadays.

 

I enjoy philosophy and psychology rather than this common core load of bull.
I'd rather have specific courses or practice a trade but you know. They want to give you a "broad set of fundamentals" that more likely than not becomes irrelevant to daily life.
For Teachers: please stop. (vine contains two swears -.-)

 

School is just teaching you how to take tests, at least in New York it is.
We're not learning anything really useful, it's all a bunch of bullcrap!!

 

High school is pretty great for me.
In middle school it was a lot harder than it is now. Back then, I cared about my school work, I can't get C's on my grade card or anything. But I didn't try that much, but I made it with A's and B's.

High school I work for everything, I study, I learn, and I understand it. Middle school was nothing like that. Middle school sucked for me and I tried to understand stuff, but sometimes it was harder. I had a terrible math teacher for my 7th grade year, which didn't help me at all.

You also get many more privileges in high school than in middle school which is also great.
