This was made on my phone, and will have many spelling errors. I will get them fixed soon. Among the fields of corn, cites of people, and miles of interstate Iowa. Among the daily life, of a small town, or a medium city, in the hot summer, is the Iowa state fair. Its the end-all-be-all to state fairs. Many states have them, its a place you show off your animals, and your busniess, or any other talent you might have. And in the heart of farmland, Iowa has always taken the fair very seriously. The shear mass of the fair is unbelievable. Outside of computers and technology, the fair will have anything for anyone. Today, as a yearly tradition, we went to the state fair. I thought you might like hear the adventures. We left the house at 8am. By 8:30 we where at the fair grounds. We took a long walk to the gate, and we where in. Admission for the fair is $10. But the food is what the main cost is. See one of the biggest deals of the fair is the food, almost everything there is amazing, the compitition is unreal. If it sucks, that vendor wont be there anymore then one season. Anyway Ive been doing the fair for my entire life. Are first stop: Crescentis. What the hell is a crescenti? This: Is a Crescenti. Its a home made, recipe guarded, fry-bread dough, with various toppings. It honestly is one of the best things Ive ever had in my entire life. No where else will you find one of these. After that we went to the next best food: J and R mini doughnuts. Stupidly, I did not take a picture. Its these little fried doughnuts, then coveredin powdered sugar, its 10x better then any other doughnut like it Ive had. After that was Shopers mart. Ever seen those stupid ads on TV's to buy some thing that looks ridicules? Imagine two massive rooms of this, again no pictures. After that Me and my friend took off by our selves. The first thing we did was look at all the animals. The Iowa state fair attracts livestock owners from all over. People bring there cows, pigs, horses, sheep, goats, lama, muel, chicken*, rabbit and anything in between to the fair to be judged. And they hold contests for anything. Anyway the first building we went to was the cattle building. Despite the smell, it was great. Here is a picture: That was a picture of cow. Its about as close up you can get. After that we went to a building called "Avenue of Breeds" the anything barn. I call it that because, anything is there Minature horses, goats, lamas, Deer, and things like that. This is a picture of a goat, who thought the only hay worthy of his mouth was the clump outside his pen. This was a trio of three goats we found. One of the most well known contests at the fair: The biggest pig. this guy took first place. After that was the sheep barn. Sheep are probably the noisiest animal, the noise is baaaaad. This is a sheep that wanted to say hello. Once the sheep farm was done, my friend wanted to take the sky glider Basically you sit in this seat, and a cable takes you over the ground, its really cool. After that we wonderded around, got a smoothie, and decided to hit Varried Industries Building. This where anyone from directTV, to Goodwill, To collages, to small busniess, selling anything from a bed, to a hot tub, to a gun-safe, and even a shed, all have a booth and sell stuff. Its one of the few air-conditioned buildings on the fair grounds, so its always busy. We decide that we should get something to eat. So we ordered a cup of chocolate chip cookies. This is another state fair institution: they probably make hundreds of millions of cookies in the 10 days the fair exists. Thre are a few stnands on the street, and the kitchen it self inside. god these things are good. After that we walk around, and we decide its lunch time. We both go for one thing: Homemade lemonade. The lemonade stands at the state fair is one of the fiercest competitions there. There are debates on the best method of making lemonade, and they mean business. Anyway, we had some. If you like lemonade, you would love this. For food I had a state fair icon: The foot long corn dog. This is another thing that concession stands will compete for: the best corndog. The one I had was mediocre. After Lunch we decided to go to the animal learning center, where all the baby animals are. Here is where you can see new-born animals, most happenig at the fair. They have baby cows, sheep, and goats. They usually have baby chickens and ducks* . http://m.imgur.com/a/g0Fg1 There is all the pictures of the new-borns and there mother. The highlight of this building are the baby pigs. http://m.imgur.com/BerOmXL,tMqxbf9,X6zzT80,EmrTfle That might explain why. After this we head up the hill, to catch a concert called Vocal Trash. Soon after is one of my favroites, KCCI news at 5 live from the fair. Basically one of our news stations, broadcasts there 5 o'clock news from the sate fair, in front of a live audience. http://m.imgur.com/a/bq0qy always lots of fun. After that is one final push. Me and my friend to end the day with dinner. I get another Crescenti, he gets sesame chicken on a stick. We both split an order of these: Cheese, lightly battered and deep-fried. 100% amazing. After that we make one last stop, before rejoing the rest of the group to head home: Bauder's has been a well known place in Des Moines, it was a pharmacy, but an old fashion one, that sold Milk shakes and sodas as well. Anyway This is one of the freshest strawberry milk shakes you will have. Not sure what happened to the place, sense the guy who ran the pharmacy is in jail for writing bad prescriptions. We walked back where we came from, and made one last stop: The fair's biggest rabbit. We then got in the van and headed home: 12 hours after we had left. -- So thats my state fair story, hope you enjoyed. *Due to the avain flu epidemic, all bird shows (chicken, turkey, ducks, ect) in Iowa where canceled this year.
Yes actualy. Because its politic season, almost every Canaanite comes to the state fair. Our local news paper, The Des Moines Register has a stand where every candidate can do a speech or something. Almost every candidate has came this year. Yesterday was the day that Ted Cruz came.
I did not see him, I did not want to be near that area while that was going on (way to many people) but he was there.
Food...the best part of the fair♡ This year I had cheese curds, mini donuts and lemonade. Not exactly a well balanced diet =P
