I wish she'll get her friends back and have a happy life again... this is just horrible.
I know the guy is in jail now, but why do people just love to bully people? Why do people pick on people that are different from them, even though we're all the same.
We're all human, why do you want to pick on someone who is the same with ;-;

 

So she's scared about what everyone will think? I understand that mentality, but that's kind of stupid only because you made a thread about it anyway, where people are going to share their thoughts regardless. Where's her family in all of this? There was no point in you making the thread when she could easily explain more. These topics are controversial. People seek attention and it doesn't help that you made the thread for her. Why would you believe a random guy on Skype? Who does that?

BUT ON TOPIC: people shouldn't be doing this, they get themselves into DEEP trouble, and there is no way out of it, although Sarah is really nice and I will forgive her for this.

 

Okay I've been hovering this thread a bit and seen some things that bring my attention on in a snap.
Now your opinion is your opinion I'm not opposing to anyone nor trying to start a fight I'm just trying to shed maybe a pinch of light on some of you people that really don't get this just by thinking in her shoes for a moment, and to share my opinion on some of these answers.

I'm sorry, that is nothing close to "completely harmless". The internet can harm you, it is 100% possible. Threats any kind of threat is a serious matter no matter what way you put it. Many people in the world have the capabilities to make sure you don't go to the police, and make sure you do as told, or else they will do something that can physically harm you. Even had the person given proof, she would still be in equal amounts of danger. She doesn't know who they are. For all she knows it could be someone at her school, or a stalker. Stuff like this is not to be a joke, not to be a "try not to worry" matter, nor is it something to just be like oh okay well sorry that happened "Good Luck". This is reality, every way you put it she was in danger, if this person had just been a 16 year old or 14-13 year old just wanting to fuck with someones mind and say "Oh I have your address I'm gonna find you, threat here threat there" That is still dangerous. Why is it dangerous? People, even kids our age, commit suicide because of things very similar to this. People have the technology. People have the resources. People have the information. It is today about 10 times easier to find out where someone lives on the internet just by IP tracking. Or simply having their skype. And I assume this guy is a grown man, so no, he won't "shit bricks" he'll simply find another way to flee that situation, and target someone else. It's that simple. It happens everyday. It is a good thing that he got caught but, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of people, just like him. It is exceptionally hard to recover from something like this. She could end up having a number of post traumatic health problems. If you could just have thought for a minute and stepped in her shoes, you would know to what extent of pain this may have caused her. That is all I have to say for this.

1: She's scared because she has has some damn respect for all of you and doesn't want to be shunned for something she didn't cause. Nobody wants that, nobody wants to be based off of a forced lie. She's is just looking for acceptance on the matter that she will come back welcomed, really nothing to much if you ask me.

2: She wants you to share your thoughts. She is wanting to know and feel safe that you people still at least give a damn, since I assume she's been here awhile and wishes to stay longer but again not being known as an "Attention Seeker" or "Liar"

3: Don't you think that's personal? Like I know that this thread is personal but, her family? Why do you care where her family is in this? That's her worry not yours.

4: Um sorry but, had she made it herself would it really make a difference? Really you should be mindful for a minute and think it's better she went to a friend to write it rather than her. You don't know what's she going through, and in my own opinion it would make her look 2 times more of an attention seeker if she wrote it herself.

5: A LOT OF PEOPLE DO. THAT'S WHAT PREDATORS ARE. THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. MILLIONS FALL FOR IT. PEOPLE CAN FAKE A SMILE BETTER WITH OUT CRACKING. IT'S EASY TO FALL FOR IT. Honestly. It is.

Okay that's all I have to say. I'm sorry if this offended anyone, sorry if I can down harsh but, this is real you guys. Not fun and games.

Again sorry if I was, or sounded mad. I was just upset that some people don't take into consideration what the outcomes are of things like this.
But, to sarah you have my blessing that you do well, and are okay in the long run. I'm not a religious woman but, I'm praying for you.

 

Look. I was being real, but I should have explained more. I'm not an inconsiderate jackass. The Internet is a wall where people can hide and stab from underneath. Why she believed some guy on Skype, who knows. I don't care where her family is, what was implied is that she could look to them for help. I said controversial. I believe this. People commit suicide because of this, I know people who have. Is it an issue, absolutely. All because one faceless name on a website wanted to harm another. They wouldn't do that in person or anything because they're weak. It's difficult to post things on a forum because of attention seeking. To me, personally, it would be better to type it yourself. Having someone else do it is like when you make a mistake and someone else apologizes for you. I don't mind that her friend made it. Both making it yourself and having a friend do it have aspects of attention seeking. Both of which are not prevalent here.

 

As I mentioned "Sorry if I came off sounding mad" and look I'm not calling you an inconsiderate jackass, again I'm sorry if I seemed like I was calling you one. With the whole attention seeking thing, I just assumed her friend wrote it only because now sarah doesnt have access to the forums in whatever way she does.

Look, again I'm sorry I didn't mean to judge what you said and I am thankful you understand this at a similar point in which I do.
But, I'll leave it at that for now, thank you for explaining.

Okay, firstly, this person on Skype is dubious at best. He probably isn't a hacker; more likely, it's someone that checked her internet history (that's pretty easy to do) and found her address through some form of social media.
But even that's unlikely. A random guy on the internet wouldn't have a reason to do this. What motive would they have for attacking someone by making them say untrue things on a random forum? People on the internet don't really do that unless they have a grudge.
The only logical person that this could be would be someone who knows her in real life or someone that has a grudge towards her on the Internet. The person is also either young or autistic, being that their choices are ridiculously stupid. No actual hacker would be foolish enough to do this through a communication outlet as large as Skype. It's a foolish decision.

I digress. If the person has threatened her, that's against the law, and this could also possibly fall under variations of blackmail laws. Furthermore, if they feel threatened, either the police or the FBI can be contacted to trace the person's IP and make arrests if necessary. If and only if they have made legitimate threats, then law enforcement will be happy to clean it up.
So why hasn't thing happened already?

 

If the person is in jail, why didn't Sarah post this herself? Surely theres no reason someone else had to make it for her?

 

I'm pretty sure you can't go to jail for threats, unless you threaten to bomb bloody the White House

 

I looked up into more detail was it over Skype?

If so it is over Skype he is lying you can track where she lives and her ip and her name....
He is lying he is probably like 5 years old trust me.

There are a few...extremely insensitive replies on this thread. Somebody went and tracked down the address of an 11 year old girl with the intent on blackmailing her into doing whatever he wanted. We might not know the full story, but what we do know is that:

• Sarah apparently didn't know the person at all (she added them because they claimed to be an old friend at first).
• The stalker found out about her address and a lot of other things than that. Not just her address.
  
  It is possible he stalked her on social media. but apparently he found out "things that could make her lose a lot of friends." Normally I don't put my deepest secrets on my Facebook or Instagram profile.
• Somebody forced her to lie about who she was.

These things can be pretty traumatic, whether the case was truly so serious or not. Think about what it would be like to be Sarah right now.

There are predators on the Internet, just like there are predators in real life. He could have found out about Sarah's forum usage through, like you said before, gaining access to her history or otherwise.

People make dumb choices sometimes, and I'm willing to bet all the money I have that there are plenty of predators lurking through Skype. They're certainly not smart, which is a good thing because the authorities can arrest them easier, but they're out there.

I felt like I had to say this. This type of thing can be traumatizing, especially for somebody of Sarah's age. I know there are a lot of people who don't know how to relate with this, but please, can we stop making jokes about it? It isn't funny in the slightest. Even if it was some little kid trying to be funny, this whole event can still be pretty scary.

Best of luck to Sarah that she recovers from this. It's good to know that the stalker has been arrested.

Oh, I'm not meaning to be insensitive. What I do mean is that the person that's threatening her a) isn't smart and b) should be reported to some sort of authoritative group ASAP.
If I came off that way, that certainly wasn't my intention. It was more so of an advice post, and less of a comment about the situation.
