Opinions on Willy's maps?

Hello, fellow members of this strange yet wonderful server community. As you know, MrDeathWilliam became the main building person a while back and redid almost every map for the server. Personally, I find Willy's love for "random arrangement of theme-relevant blocks" in Every. Single. Build. he does is, ahem, a little bit ugly. I get that it's probably "establishing a look for the server" but I still do not particularly like it. I would love to hear your opinions!

First off, no one here is going to ban you for voicing your own opinions unless you're @Gooby

Secondly, @MrDeathWilliam shares a similar style to the famed builder, Grian. Both of them focus on the medieval aspect of minecraft, much like Hypixel aswell. Yes, the blocks are randomized in the direction they are going, but it's supposed to signify a rugged, beaten path. The buildings are meant to look simpler in comparison to our modern homes, but without loosing their amazing details. MrDeathWilliam is a very experienced and professional builder, and although he isn't as good as Grian, -He's free :P-

 

In my opinion, @MrDeathWilliam's builds are really unique, and amazing.
I am glad he is a part of our staff team, and very supportive to all the members.
Every build is different, which makes it more interesting.

I like medieval builds, just never liked MrDeathWilliam's execution of it.

 

That's understandable, but you have to understand that during the medeival age, everything wasn't so organized :P

One thing to say. If you cant build as good as someone, dont go judging them. Try making your own builds and fix the mistakes you think he has.

This guy gets it. This guy gets that there is a difference between stating an opinion and needlessly bashing. If I had said "OMGGG WILLEE CANNOT BILD FOR HIZ LYFE" then it would be different.

 

I believe Willy has been doing a great job, he also is much more that a builder though.

And it also depends on your texture pack the way that a build turns out. For some people it will look great, for others something may look like crap. I also personally like the technique of placing blocks in a random order, it adds character, and as stated above it adds the effect of a well beaten path. I much prefer that over something simpler.

 

Tbh, I preferred the old spawn before willy's spawn better, but that's cause in my opinion willy overdid the spawn.

The buildings are just, overdone.
They aren't bad.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking
If you can't build as good as willy (because he is really good)
Then dont complain that you don't like his builds....well at least there is no need for a voting poll

It's willy's style so I just leave him too it

 

His buildings are becoming better and better. His buildings are interesting to stay/travel around.

 

His builds are really amazing although when it comes down to it, it can be overdone. Some of the flooring just seems completely unnecessarily overdone, the spawn had ALOT of gravel, cobblestone that didn't really need to be there.

Sorry if that offended you willy, I am just saying my personal opinion.

 

William put's lots of effort into his builds, he is a very loyal staff member. His builds are amazing, and every tiny little detail is important. At spawn, his mixture of different blocks are so cool. We should learn to appreciate fine building. ;)

 

Didn't get offended, personal opinions are fine. Some opinions might even make me improve :)

Well my opinion is that -
His builds aren't overdone. If you compare it to builds on other servers...you can see that his builds are pretty much nothing next to overdone. If you think it's overdone, I guess that's good then. It means he put lots of effort into constructing the builds. There are some things that I'd like to point out about his builds. He pays attention to detail. The more detail, the less plain and boring it looks. Consistency & theme. In each of his builds/maps you can see that a theme is brought together and is consistent. It's like having cool colours with cool colours and warm colours with warm colours and all that colour blending jazz - it's less confusing for the audience/viewers and I think it works. At the same time, it's not too overwhelming and the materials he uses just blend together. Creativity. Seeing this server has a community, the majority being kids, I think that the various colours and textures he uses creates a fun and happy feeling - which aligns perfectly with this kind of server. Also, the builds are not massive. If they were, it'd be quite daunting and I don't find those things welcoming. I like an average and compacted world. It kinda brings us as a community closer. At the end of the day, it's his creation and we have to respect it. Everyone has their own built imaginations and so the way we perform art from that is unique & special, which is what I like.
I apologise if things did not make sense in that. It was probably not a good idea to do this at midnight but I really wanted to speak my mind.
