Alright, so I've got an ALIENWARE M17X PC and it's really old. I've had it since 2011.

However, I talked with some "experts" in a skype call, and they said my PC is capable of doing so much more than it currently is doing. As they put it, I'm only running at one twenty-fifth of my true potential.

    Here's my info:

    Rating: 5.4

    Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20 GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (2.70 GB usable)

    System type: 32-bit Operating System

Apparently, people with a lower processor and lower RAM count get 10x more fps than I do. Is there a problem with my PC?

Before you ask, my graphics card is

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000.

So what's my problem? An outdated graphics card, or is it that my PC is just really old?

    Well,
My average FPS is 250 with an alienware x51.

    My specs are:

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50 GHz
    Installed memory (RAM) 6.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor

Graphics card: nVidia GeForce GTX 745

Yea, its your graphics card. My PC is sh**. Its just my graphics card

    Your welcome <3

You're graphics card is the issue, yours is Intel Core HD 3000, and my laptop has an i5 Processor but it has Intel Core 4000, I sit around 60 FPS.

Are you sure you're running an Intel card? It seems fairly odd, and j wouldn't be surprised if you're using an Nvidia card with their crappy switching. There's a few ways to check, one being if you right click the desktop you see a "Nvidia.." Not sure what the full name is as I'm at school, but you'd probably recognize it.

Also, The 32bit is the part that IMO is fucking you up the best.

I really don't feel safe adding someone to skype now sorry. You have seen my i7 processor, and I heard it's the second best processor yet. Some people might now be out to get it, and skype has the ability to share my IP address. Sorry. My graphics card isn't replaceable, so I have to buy a new PC once this one finally dies of old age.

    @Spikegold

You seem to be a mastermind at these things. Here's what happened: I was on my PC, and it was working totally fine. I decided to take a trip for a while, came back, started up my PC today and it was so laggy, I couldn't even start any games except minecraft.

So far I've done 3 system restarts, 2 anti-malware scans and an antivirus scan, and nothing has happened. If you raid the above, there's my system info. Do you have any suggestions?

I know I wasn't the one tagged, But have you considered installing the 64Bit version of your windows? You'll be able to use the full 8GB of ram and all that good stuff.

I have no idea how to transfer my windows from 32 to 64 bit. Heck I didn't even know that was possible. But what are the risks? If my PC would be killed completely, I might not do it.

I'll have to agree with Blake. Having 8GB of RAM is useless if your OS is 32 bit, because it can't even use more than 4GB of it.

You can't upgrade your operating system, you'll have to install a new one (make sure it is 64 bit). Any data saved on the OS will be removed, so I suggest moving all the important things to something like a USB drive if you choose to install a new OS, as I don't think using a new OS will keep your data.

Thing is though, that legally acquiring a new OS (especially 64 bit) will cost you a bit (almost $100). @~Wolf could probably point you in a few directions on how to save money if you're getting a new OS.

Also, I'm not sure that even an old Alienware will have shipped out with Intel Graphics. Blake may be right about the active GPU switching.

I'm not too sure what the problem might be. Blake seems to know what he's talking about. See what he thinks.

My only guess is your lack of RAM. Even on 32 bit OSs you get 3.9GB max. 2.7GB is very fishy. I'm not sure as to what might've caused this though. Could be a virus, but that's all I'm aware of for now.

If it's a Core i* series processor, it ships with Intel graphics. There's no way of removing it.

However, as far as obtaining an OS legally (which I HIGHLY recommend you do), there's really no way of saving much money.
Just keep checking Newegg for deals - they sometimes have Windows OSs on sale.

It's possible that some of his RAM is dedicated to his Intel card. They can sometimes eat up nearly a gig.

Well, we have a slight problem. My father says I treat my PC like a "god". He refuses to help me buy anything, as I'm no longer the "island boy" I once was that loved swimming in the ocean.

If he refuses to help me buy RAM, I am spent. My mother doesn't have the money to do it, so whatever fixes you are suggesting that deal with the expense of money, I cannot do. Thanks for at least trying to help.

I won't lock this thread just yet, because there might be some other way. Some people have suggested overclocking, but I read about it and it basically speeds both your PC up, and the time between now and its death.

You don't need to overclock. And doing it to a laptop is torture.

Your RAM is fine. Your OS is what's holding it back.

Honestly, if you have like, $50 to spare, just get a visa prepaid card and buy the OS from Newegg when it's on sale, That's how I get money in my steam wallet when my parents were too cocky to help.(And donate to the server :P)

The OS is the one you mentioned having to pay money. While am I allowed on social media, my parents are overprotective. They watch my every online banking movement.

I don't see how my dad can say I treat this PC like a "god" when really I am spending most of my time on it doing schoolwork (Charter school, all work done from PC except on Fridays).

The question raises what is the method of transportation. And once again, it is my parents who get involved there. I tell you perc, a trail of greed brings rich men to your door, like pigs to truffles.

If you have a way of doing this all virtually, I am all ears.

Well, I dont know the area that you live in, but there is literally a gas station right across the street from my neighborhood. I can literally leave my house, walk, get the card, and walk back in <30 minutes. It might be different there, but literally any place that has visa gift cards(any convenient store, gas station, and most grocery stores), and if you're just too lazy to walk/ride a bike, that's you're problem.
