Many people are unaware, but there is a group of hackers which are taking over steam accounts! It's not external hacking, but internal hacking, where if one of your friends sends you a link and you CLICK IT, It overrides your steam and security, giving them your account! If you get a message with a link from a friend with a domain name of 'capture' or any image site you have never heard of, REPORT THE SENDER! Their account has been compromised, most likely, and the virus has spread. It is such a sad thing, considering that TF2's economy ALONE is worth 2.6 BILLION dollars, and you just gave some stranger your favorite painted hat, in which he'll either scrap or sell it. This problem has been going on for months, as I know it, and there is no end in sight. If you have ANY relating information, please share it here! Ty for reading!
This has been running for a while xd Watch out for links like steammcommunity, or tinyurl links. Most people call it phishing :p
Lol I generally trust me friends, cause they give me a reliable message before or after the link :P Ty anyway
You should always have Steam Guard on. It may be annoying, but it keeps people from logging into your account, even if they have your password.
But I like to trade ;-; If u put it back on and take it back off does it still take 15 days before u can trade?
My classmate became a victim to this. Our other classmate sent him a link and when he clicked it, his Steam all of a sudden crashed and, some file started downloading itself in his computer and he couldn't stop it from downloading and coruppted several of his files. Anyway thanks for the heads up perc.
Thanks I guess..? I don't really use Steam that much and I don't have much friends on Steam but thanks.
I read about this before I clicked this link, thankfully I never open any messages no have no one on my steam
I don't get why you should even click on links from steam, but thanks for the people that have trust issues?
It'll say something like, "Hey look at this funny gif I found <Enter phishing link here>" If it isnt a picture site that you know, ask the person about it on skype(If you have their skype) to double check it isnt the phisihing virus.
This happened between me and Sera once. She randomly clicked a link and it got sent to me. I was really suspicious and it took a while to clear things up. Thankfully I never clicked it though.
Why would people do such a mean thing?Ik the internet is never safe, but WHO CARES no1 pays attention to steam msgs anyways XD.
