Actually, it does...
The number IS in the order that you joined.

SilentThief's number is 15, while yours is 455, so he joined before you.

ST3P's is 58, so he was the 58th member to join the forums.

That's why my number is in the 12 thousands, because I'm a new member, so I'm the 12490th member to join these forums. It doesn't assign random numbers, they're all by date and time joined. The numbers wouldn't just conveniently give you 58 if you joined before Wiki, whose number is 8...

and I think it was MyFreakingSelf or an old staff member to be the first to join the old forums, but I can't quite remember...

 

It isn't ,look at @Warden_Creeper 's number. It says 11849 while there are about 8.500 members on the forums.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot more than 8500 members on the forums. It's really hard to tell now that the Members tab brings you to notable members ;-;

 

Actually it says how many members there are under the "online members" tab

 

Those are the number of registered members. Banned members, and members who did not confirm their account are not in that number. The number literally JUST went down by three. If you keep an eye on it, you'll see that it does go down sometimes (due to someone being banned).

Sorry about that mistake, I realized that I joined in December 2012. I guess I got my dates mixed up
