Taiyōnomusume: Part 1 of a 2-part story.

Alright.
So, that fanfic I wrote a while ago and didn't finish?
There's a reason I didn't.
Because it sucked.

Now, to make up for it, I'm writing a NEW, better story with a different plot.

Spoiler: Quick note about the whole "2-part" scenario".

This is part is essentially a prologue for part 2, but since this is long enough to be a story on it's own, I'm splitting the full story in two. I hope this makes sense. ;)

There is a lot of mention of "gods" throughout this story. Please note that this story is for nothing but entertainment, and any offense towards religion is unintended. Thank you. :D

Chapter 1:
"The story that you are about to be told is all that I know."
Over a thousand years ago, people all over the world worshiped the gods. The most powerful and known of them all, was a white wolf; also known as Sun Goddess Amaterasu.

After a rest that lasted one hundred years, Amaterasu had recovered her strength and destroyed the demons throughout the land. Including the fearsome and powerful 8-headed serpent, Orochi.

After many moons of battle against evil, Amaterasu had triumphed, and returned to the Celestial Plain to completely purify the world, and return her home to it's former glory.

However, no matter her efforts, she could not purify the Earth alone, so she was forced to send her still young only son, Chibiterasu, back down to Earth. To Amaterasu's pleasant surprise, Chibiterasu was able to exorcise the remaining demons, allowing Amaterasu to peacefully go to her final rest a few years later, when Chibiterasu was grown up.

When he grew older, Chibiterasu took Amaterasu's place as the Sun God, Chikarkami, and had a daughter of his own: a small fox goddess. No mortal knows exactly who the mother of this goddess was, or what name she gave the baby goddess. All that is known is that the mother was likely a fox goddess herself, and controlled the moon. To keep balance between the sun and moon, the newborn goddess was given the power of the stars. The world celebrated the birth of a new goddess, and the Celestial Plain and Earth shared in an era of peace.

But this era could not last for long.

Sounds like a mix of Touhou and something else...

Hmmm, not exactly Touhou.
It IS based on a Japanese game, though. ;)

Chapter 2

Just a few days after the birth of the new goddess, dark clouds appeared in the sky. Everybody was prepared for a long season of rainfall.

However, there was no rain. A week passed, and the clouds were still there. Just looming, growing darker by the day. On the seventh day, Chikarkami stirred up a windstorm to bring the clouds closer for inspection.

Within the clouds was a presence of large demonic force. Horrified, Chikargami ordered seven of the other gods of the Celestial Plain to go to Earth and protect the people. Chikarkami assigned them each a shrine in different areas of the planet to watch over the people. On the next day, they were to combine their powers and exorcise the evil from the fog that was slowly engulfing the Earth. The rest of the gods were ordered to stay on the Celestial Plain to protect Chikarkami's daughter.

The next day came, and for many, it was their last.

From their positions in the world, the seven gods released all of their power at once; a blast for each of the holy elements: water, fire, ice, wind, earth, thunder, and light. This wasn't enough to stop the demons within the clouds, however. It only agitated them.

A figure appeared from the darkest cloud over the planet. Descriptions change depending on where the story is told, but all variations describe a creature darker than night, filling the whole sky with his appearance. The only thing bright about this creature were eight, glaring eyes that were all colored differently. It had a booming, voice that could be heard throughout the whole planet.

It spoke, "Your pitiful gods cannot defeat me. There can only be one ruler. Your kingdoms have but one king," the creature moved towards the shrine of the first god, "so why must you have multiple gods?"

The demon proceeded to devour the gods and the shrines they resided in. None of them could stop it, as the collective energy attack had used all of their powers. The demon moved on to destroy the Celestial Plain.

The remaining gods knew what was coming, and had all evacuated and hid on Earth before their demise could arrive.

All except for Chikarkami.
