Also to go off your point:
Use common sence: The person was a new member had JUST created an account, and was his first post. I treated it with caution and then deemed it safe to use. This is also why you have to be carefully on small Minecraft servers /seen can be used very poorly.

    I was tricked by a virus before (but I really wasn't :D)
After I heard about a virus called HeartBleed (Minecraft put that all over the news), I freaked out. One time, I was playing in a server and I started lagging bad and I thought it was the virus taking me over. In a few days, I found out it was because I had too many things going on in my computer. When I pressed F3, I found out I was in zero fps. I felt like an idiot xD

heartbleed is a bug in the SSL service that leaked private info. A virus is something that atcks your computer, typically part of or a EXE file on windos OS

The internet is a very mysterious yet dangerous place, holding countless threats that could target your pc. I have had quite a history with computer viruses, especially Trojans. I was once mislead to a explicit porno website, and thought my pc would be toast that day. But thanks to my antivirus, it detected the website and labeled it as malicious. the best ways to stay safe on the internet, is to not open emails, IMs or links from anyone you dont know, and dont accept unknown downloads or skype calls. Yes hackers can get you through skype as well. So make sure you also dont click any pop ups, and if you come across a website thats bad, back out of it IMMEDIATELY and delete the website out of your history, i suggest you get a antivirus like Kaspersky or avast, and get Ccleaner as well. I use norton antivirus and its working absolutely fine. But to sum it up, dont trust people who send you unknown links.

    Couple things:
    1) Hackers through Skype... Not really existent anymore, if ever.
    2) Windows Defender in Windows 8 and Windows Antivirus in 7 and Vista work just as well as any name-brand Antiviruses, for FREE
    3) Ccleaner can destroy your computer if you aren't careful.

Gah...so, what about all those "registry errors" it's supposed to fix?
Was fixing those a bad thing?
(Sorry if this is a bit off-topic).

If you didn't change the default settings AT ALL, then it's fine.
It's when you start playing with settings when things go bad.
