Just sickening. [Serious thread]

I was complaining about how bad the Disney channel shows my sister watches are (it's true, they're horrendous), and my brother said "It's ironic that he hates them so much but like MLP". Then my dad gave a nonsensical speech about how people in forums and message boards don't have knowledge or reason, and that it's weird to even like ponies. I asked them to get an amount of sense into them, but they just give the same crappy arguments. Just sad.

They think that MLP was originally made for little kids, so only little kids should watch it. I do have a few female cousins (age 12 and 19) who like ponies and actually understand why MLP is so popular, but none of them know that I am a brony and they'd probably think I'm a crazy freak. This is just sad. I would explain it to them, but it's hard to get it out in the right way.

I'm the only one in my family who understands, and I understood it even before I was a brony. I once hated on ponies like all those benighted people, but me seeing how popular ponies are on the Internet made me realize that ponies are liked for real reasons, not people on message boards saying crap. I eventually decided once and for all to watch MLP, and then I truly became enlightened.

In conclusion, it ain't easy being a brony amongst a family of non-bronies, or in other words, an experienced Internet user amongst a family of non-experienced Internet users. My dad and my brother THINK they know and think I don't, but my sister and my mom don't care one way or the other.

So yeah, this experience made me realize more about this world and how closed-minded many people are. Post your opinions and stuff here.

Dark edge is right. You're brother and dad both have a point. If you can dislike your sister's show, they can dislike yours. My Little Pony is just like any other tv show. Imaginary deep meaning or not. The only reason bronies get a lot of hate because they obsess too much over their tv show and put it into everything they do. It's not that were don't like you, we just don't like what you do, it's a bit...extreme. (I'm just talking about bronies in general)

 

Look wiki your a great guy, but your dad does have a point. You cant force your parents and siblings to watch mlp, they can watch what they like, but your sister watching disney, dont get pissed at her, just pity her. Sometimes i also worry about you cause the mlp stuff and adrien brody stuff can be a bit unhealthy sometimes, I feel that its taking over your life. Maybe its time to find something new to like?

 

My Little Pony is a children's TV show. Also, how can you complain about them being close minded for their disliking of MLP, when you yourself are complaining about your sister's interest of Television shows? Disliking MLP is not sickening, it's an opinion.

Before I watched the show, I hated the bronies. I thought they were so annoying and that they were all "gay 40 year old men" as my friends would say. I thought that My Little Pony was a stupid and annoying show, and I only liked it when I was a kid because little kids are "genuinely stupid". Last summer I visited my 4 and 5 year old cousins. A boy (5) and a girl (4). They were watching the show and I said to myself, "Wow, this really isn't that bad at all." The only thing I don't like is that my cousins say (the boy), "I like Princess Celestia the bestest because she is the prettiest pony." The girl says, "I like Rarity better because she is very pretty and she likes dresses like me!" I personally like Fluttershy, not because she is the prettiest but because she is like me. Now, that is the only thing bad about the show, kids like it because the ponies are pretty. Other than that it is a really great show with great lessons to learn. My family dislikes the show, and I don't care. I'm not going to tell them that I personally enjoy the show though. I agree with you, and your dad. If he doesn't like the show, so be it. If you like it, who is he to tell you not to watch it? It's not R rated or porn or something. So it's fine. Just let the problems go, LET IT GO!

Well, since they ARE kids they would have naive opinions. I don't mind my family not appreciating the show like I do that terribly much, but it still irks me that they think they're right and I'm wrong.

Additional note: I like Twilight for the same reason you like Fluttershy. and because she's sexy

 

Nobody is wrong, but you still shouldn't have been complaining about what your sister watches, if you are not prepared to receive criticism about what you watch yourself.

 

Well, I've always been a pegasister and I'm proud of my fandoms. My parents think its 'cute' and don't mind.

The most popular boys in my grade are my friends and twins and bronies. There is nothing wrong with being a brony/pegasister. This girl who is so obnoxious is like 'I'm a TOTAL pegasister!' and when someone asks what TV shows she watches, she hides it and is like oh I just watch _______ and ______. And i'm like you fake. Its sickening

I had a powerpoint presentation and one of the slides was how friendly Brazilians are so nice and welcoming and I had a picture of the Main 6 as friends and all and hugging. The only people who questioned me was my teacher and the class idiot and I didn't care, why should I care? It makes me happy and people have to understand that.

Also, there is a difference between not watching MLP and hating on it. My friends all know I like MLP, and I talk about it now and then, not obnoxiously but I'm still accepted. The seven year olds who hate on 'Little Kid Shows' pretend like they're so cool because they don't watch it and nobody pays any mind too, so why should you?

 

I totally understand, my family thinks they are right ALL the time. My mom today: "A ton has 1000 pounds in it." I told her no it has 2,000 pounds, but you know *She is ALWAYS RIGHT* and *MLP is stupid* and blah blah. I still don't get why people need to share their negative opinions on such little problems.

 

Why do you even care? My friends and even family make fun of me for watching Anime, but hey. Screw them. I enjoy my shows so ill keep watching them, no matter what they say.

Just ignore the arguments, but also don't create them.
I don't see why you bash your sisters show if you can't even take criticism about your own show, what did you expect to happen? Everyone to agree with you?
And why is it sickening for people to have a opinion about your show? Yeah, maybe they didn't see it but obviously your brother and dad are older than you and aren't even going to try to understand it. So you migth also wanna try and keep the show to yourself. Not hiding it, but not sharing what happend in the episode with your family when you eat dinner. There is plenty of other people out there who like the show, talk with them about it. Not with your family if they dont like it.

Anyway, I didn't even want my family to know that I'm a brony; they only know because my brother walked in on me watching MLP and then he told my dad and my sister. I've been trying to keep it a secret, and it was my brother who brought MLP up in the first place. I do try to keep the show to myself, but sometimes my brother brings it up and *occasionally* I do.

Anyway, the fact that you complain Disney shows and call them bad, yet proceed to be mad at your family for not understanding MLP, that's somewhat hypocritical. Some people on the forums have questioned me liking anime *looks at Joey*, and I honestly don't mind. But if I were to hate on their opinions, yet hate on their own shows as well, that would be hypocritical.
If you are going to be disgusted with your family's opinion, don't be like them and hate on your sister's shows as well. That's hypocrisy.
Your family doesn't have to accept everything. It's their opinion and their right to dislike certain shows, no? My family has told me several times that watching anime is extremely strange, and I don't mind, because that's their own opinion.
I see your point, and I agree that MLP isn't really completely meant for kids (though I've never watched an episode myself).
But why are you mad at your family for doing the same thing you are doing? That is ironic, no?
