As part of my National Honor Society application, I've decided to include an essay and/or reflection on how people are adapting to social distancing. I need your help :)) To say the least, asking on here may come out with one-sided answers when compared to asking random people on the street. Let it be known there are no people walking outside right now - so give me a break. ------------------------------------------ What I need from you: What was your daily life like before social distancing? What is your daily life like during social distancing? Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? I'm trying to stive away from the obvious answer which would be "I was busy but now I'm not." So try to give me some detail!! Also - if you are one of those people where nothing has changed, write it anyway! ----------------------------------------- My own reflection: My life before social distancing seemed to be busier when regarding classes in school and my social life. My schedule (obviously) had little room compared to what it is currently. Let it be known, in my free time, I hardly left my own house. But - I was always out of the house from 7 AM to 3 PM. All things considered, my daily life during social distancing is very predictable. Being an out of work 16-year-old, there's not much I can get my hands dirty in. Most of my day is spent sleeping and calling friends, plus an hour or two of online school work (really easy and short most of the time). You may be able to find me working out in the basement (this is usually cardio). Generally, I'm fucking bored. With all that being said - most of what I do in my free time during my normal days is what you would find me doing during social distancing. Am I fond of this? Yes and no. Reasons being I would like to have a chance at going out with friends as I generally miss talking to them face to face and doing goofy shit. But, does it entirely matter? Not really - plus, I have more free time to myself. Your turn!
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Ehh, wake up, walk to school that type of thing. Spend a lot of time with bf at school an that type of thing. After then I'd maybe go outside or have something to do. Wrestling or music, then yeah sleeps What is your daily life like during social distancing? The weather is kinda nice so I'm spending my days learning new trampoline tricks, customizing WWE action figures and playing on the server. I'm kinda a nerd a lil bit. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? I'm enjoying some parts of the change and not some others. I love being able to chill outside or spend hours on Minecraft without anything to be getting up for and not having any work but I also miss Wrestling and going to see friends and stuff. Seen as the weather is so nice us Welsh would all be swarming a beach or hiking but all we have is our back gardens or sometimes nothing. It's hard but can be fun too.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? - School and not a lot of sleep. What is your daily life like during social distancing? - Less school and still not a lot of sleep. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? - Yes, because of the less school part. No, because of more frequent migraines.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Honestly, it wasn't really similar. I mean, before this actual school year, it was pretty similar. I stayed inside, played video games, didn't sleep, same old same old. Then when sophomore year started, I started to leave my house more. I'd hang out with my friends after school downtown, and I'd go out on the weekends to the skatepark or whatnot. Combine this with facetiming my girlfriend and seeing her, and with a lot of homework. I barely came on here or played video games at all. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Well, for starters, my sleep schedule is absolutely obliterated. I wake up around 4pm every day and go to sleep around 7 am. I usually watch Breaking Bad until around 8pm, then I facetime my girlfriend until she sleeps. Then on, I just play JH, watch Breaking Bad, talk to my IRL friends in discord calls or all of the above. Note that my school district doesn't allow for teachers to hand out assignments due to it being an unfair learning opportunity compared to students who wouldn't be able to do online courses. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? It just feels like every summer vacation honestly. I'm fine with it now but I know it'll get annoying. I really want to see my girlfriend and I miss fucking around with my friends downtown or at the skatepark.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Average day for us was... Me getting up at 4am, Ezz leaving for work at 5. Kid up for school at 6:30... driven to school by 8. Then I did cleaning and spent my time online... Had various doctors appointments (which I honestly hated going to) Kid would come home or go to a friends house. My day was usually really quiet until they came home.. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Ezz works from home now. Kid is home now. She's on discord. Now it's a lot of noise, not excessive really just more than what I'm used to. (I have sound sensitivities). I spend more time in my bedroom where it's quiet either reading, looking at things online or texting. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? While I like them being home, I miss my routine. I sleep too much which causes problems with my meds. I stay up too late because of my meds being late...
Life is hella busy for me, I would wake up at 6 am, go look after the horses, put them out into the field, then get ready to go to school. Every day after school I would have football training, these sessions would last around 2 hours. I then go home and spend the last few hours of my day playing mc! Luckily I live a few miles away from the closest town. I have fields and fields where I can exercise without another human insight. I spend a couple hours exercising, a few doing online school, and the rest playing Minecraft. Currently, I'm enjoying having a break, but I'm sure in no time I will be extremely bored. It is nice to have a break, I sure did need it, but school is great! And I miss it. But it is VERY nice not to have to get up at 6 am.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? I had my daily routine of going to school, but now I stay at home and take online classes. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Now I still have to go to school, but I use online classes, some of which are x25 more boring. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? Overall, yes. I get to sleep in more, and I don't have to take an hour long bus ride to and from school. Also, it's been easier to get outside more so I've been able to start jogging a lot more.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? i went to school everyday, and i usually worked about 3-4 days of the week after school. i hung out with a lot of my school friends and a few co workers whenever i had the time, and i also went to visit my dad and step mom every other weekend. i was preparing for choir competition (that was on april 17th) and also learning music for my last choir concert. What is your daily life like during social distancing? daily life is now just me sitting around my house on my laptop, phone, and my switch. i haven't been working too much unless they need extra help or there's a promotion going on. ive only been able to hang out with one of my friends, and i can't go visit my dad anymore because they want to be careful. i started e-learning on monday, and i spend a few hours doing all of my work. my choir competition was canceled, and i doubt we'll be able to put together the last choir concert if we even go back to school. my prom and graduation are up in the air and i have 0 clue if ill be able to walk across the stage. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? not at all. i miss going to school, being able to work, and hanging out with my friends. the virus ruined a lot of things i was looking forward too, and it really sucks
What was your daily life like before social distancing? college and homework What is your daily life like during social distancing? online college classes and homework Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? but nothing changed
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Wake up in the morning feeling like Nick Jonas, go to school, do school, go home, play on the computer for 7 hours straight, go to bed. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Wake up in the morning feeling like Nick Jonas, play on the computer for 14 hours straight, go to bed. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? I am not fond of this change because I'm a very extroverted person and not having pretty much ANY real-life social interaction is lonely and super boring. I'm thankful that I still get to talk to people over the internet, though.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Go to uni, watch lectures, go back, do work, talk to friends, eat, rinse and repeat. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Oddly enough very similar. Obviously I'm not really going to uni at the moment (since literally the entire country is in lockdown), but I'm still working, and I'm still hanging out with some friends (this is because we're in a hostel-type thing, so my friends are in my 'bubble'). Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? I'm not fond of the restrictions we have due to the lockdown (no shops, minimal going outside, etc), and I don't really like online lectures since I can't focus as much. However, I'm preferring my job at the moment, since everyone is remote, so I can actually go to meetings and stuff, whereas before I was the only remote worker, so I would often miss out on what's going on.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Prior to the implementation of the quarantine, my usual routine would normally consist of going to college/university, and occasionally playing games when I get home, or going to the gym after school ends. I would also spend some significant time talking to my friends, both in person, and through message. Of course, I'd do everyday activities such as eating, showering, sleeping, etc. On weekends, I'd either go out with friends, and occasionally sleepover. Sometimes I'd go out for a drink or go to a party. If I'm staying at home, I'd either watch Netflix or YouTube, or play. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Right now, my daily life consists of me watching Netflix and YouTube, playing games, video calling my girl, and working out. I no longer have to worry about academics since the college I go made an interesting decision to suspend the rest of the semester, and pass everybody. This has been my life for about a month now, and will most probably be my life for at least another month or so. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? In comparison to the person I was before, I'm much more extroverted in nature, meaning I crave for social interaction. Social distancing clearly limits this, so my only forms of interaction with people are through call, or text. This virus has honestly ruined a lot of plans for me. I could have gone on quite a number of dates with my girl by now, or went out and spent more time with friends. I could be at the gym right now, working towards my goals. To my surprise, I've actually gotten quite bored sitting down in front of a computer 24/7 after a few days. I guess this kind of life just isn't for me anymore. Aside from that, this quarantine has sort of affected my health in general. Considering that most restaurants are closed, I don't exactly get to eat out or have food delivered. I'm relatively picky with what I eat so this has caused a rather drastic shift in my diet. I've lost around 6 pounds now since the 2nd week of March. This isn't good for me since I'm trying to bulk up. Aside from that, I've found myself sleeping at around 2-3AM on a regular basis since I stay up talking to people knowing I won't be able to see them. On average, I get around 6-7 hours of sleep a day. This shouldn't be a problem except, now is not the best time to lack sleep. In fact, I should arguably be using this time to get even more sleep than usual since I don't have anything to do. My short attention span doesn't help me either. Now that I'm stuck at home, I pretty much have a routine now. This unfortunately, prevents me from being able to fully enjoy my day since in my head, it's just "another day". I hope that bio-technologists may be able to find a cure to COVID-19 sooner, so that we can go back to our everyday lives prior to the quarantine as soon as possible.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? My life before social distancing was extremely busy, would work for around 15 hours a day (between 2 jobs) and spent the rest of the day either sleeping or seeing people and going to gigs. I travelled a lot too, using trains and buses and whatnot as my main mode of transport. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Currently I'm on unpaid leave from one job and working from home on the other one. I can't travel anywhere and only leave my house for essential travel (lockdown yay). Trying to gain a third job so I can make up the money I would've earned before all of this happened but it's looking unlikely. On the bright side, I'm getting the holiday I kept talking about taking for about half a year. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? Kinda, I had a lot of plans for the year which has dissolved now due to corona cancelling a large majority of the festivals I was meant to be working/attending. I dislike the fact I'm at home all the time and I just want to go out with my friends. However I needed a rest and I'm getting that so I'm glad about that.
What was your daily life like before social distancing? Was going to uni and working here and there. Went out a lot though, always looking for new places to eat at with friends, and making a bunch of new friends along the way. Not much else to it. What is your daily life like during social distancing? Still going to uni but online now and still working, but more frequently due to Easter break. Unfortunately, not going out to restaurants with people, so it's a bummer. Also meeting new people is harder, but still doable and I've been managing. Few courses have went free here so I'll probably take up some of it for free qualifications. Are you fond of this change? Why or why not? 50/50. Government's giving me a bunch of money because of this, but at the same time, a fuck ton of new problems have arisen. Being unable to go out sucks as well, but this is all nothing compared to people losing relatives and people losing their livelihoods because this virus fucked them up.
